Well ended up pulling the trigger on a 2014 Yamaha Viper MCX 190. Super stoked to be back on a 4stroke turbo...I seriously considered a sidewinder again, but decided to hang back and ride a viper for this year...I wasn’t looking for a big power house...just something to head out with the kids and a few buddy rides......So planning on doing a few things to it but not getting crazy ;)

Yeah pretty excited to change a few things. Clean the bars up, push button start, powder coat a few pieces, find a mtx seat, and put some new stickers on it. Lol.

Parts coming for the push button start..and skidoo master cylinder brake. Basically do the same as I did on my sidewinder. Worked awesome
Also moving the hand and thumb warmers to switches in the console.....got a zbroz center shock spring coming from Matt at MBsuspension in Edmonton

See a couple issues with the rear skid. It has a zbroz kiss coupler installed. It’s totally destroyed. Thoughts on why? Too close? Guessing the shaft bent and cracked the plates. I’ve never used the coupler before.

sand blasting the rear suspension parts to powder coat....going through everything. Getting a tunnel wrap designed currently...mostly the cost will be labour with a few used parts.

So I see that the TCV valve was removed and a manual boost controller installed. I kind of like the idea of the TCV valve that will auto compensate for elevation changes. How did they work? I just want to ride it and not worry about setting the boost pressure.

Thinking this should be powder coated shiny black so the ice doesn’t stick? Or is it a non issue?

If I was to make a guess, the rear skid was set up way too soft and the scissor was smacking the crap out of the coupler while mogul mashing. I used the OVS coupler (same principle) prior to installing a Kmod suspension in my 1100T, but took it easy on the trail, (I'm old) never had an issue, and I did jump it in the backcountry in decent snow...

The couplers work great while climbing but they have no give when you come down hard on something things bend/break. Get rid of it and throw in the fox lockout shock don’t look back there like $600ish.

What’s the main difference between the 190-270? Is there aftermarket injectors in the 190 or just stock injectors matching boost? Mxc kits always worked the best on those 1049 engines I’m sure you will have fun. The only reason I could see someone taking off the altitude compensation is they wanted more or less boost up top?

Yeah I wasn’t planning on keeping the coupler...that’s what I did was put the qsl on the sidewinder. Probably just leave it for now with the float ...not going to get to crazy climbing with this sled. I’ll probably throw the solenoid back on and see how it works.

Great thread thanks! Getting harder to find info on builds for these vipers since the winder came out. I also have a 14 viper and looking to update it. TY4STROKE.COM. has some info on these sleds. I still have the original 14 front end. Looking to update it to a barcode or the 16 front spindle set up.

You bet. I’ll try to do these so guys can get as much information as possible. I know what it’s like to search for details. I’ll try to post as many details as possible.

so here is the drawing on how I wired up the push button start...I think this time I’m just going to go direct to the starter relay instead of adding another. I initially thought it was needed as the rer button it a low rated switch but should still work fine. I will still add the timer so after it’s running the starter won’t engage in case it’s bumped while riding. More to follow on this.

i think it’s a ground 51 deg helix...the reason I know cause I have one hanging on the wall. Lol. Looks the same angle and there’s definitely machining marks

i typically run a 47 deg helix. So will hunt one of those down. If anyone has a 47 kicking around let me know.

so is this the correct way the TCV is hooked up? Just looking a pictures trying to figure it out. Any one have a close up picture of it mounted they could post.
