They are a great sled for flat land riding but not so great for the big hills. A real pain to get at the jets on the hill. If you can find a decent sled with altitude compensation it is way better. Any sled in the same 600 size will perform just as well in the deep.
As for the flat land capabilities the exciter is an awsome sled. Decent power, handles good, stays fairly planted in corners and never had any mechanical issues but mine only had a pipe and a full paaddle 1.125 track. Actually bought it used with 1.5 plastic paddles. Had almost 5000km and not a whif of trouble. Durable and decent power for its size but you will not outrun the newer 600s. Remember it is probably 20 years old.

i eralize your not a doo guy but seriously your not going to get a yamaha in your price range that your not going to have to tinker with in the hills.

like mentioned the 570 is 20 years old. there are altitude compensating 2002 summit 600s in good condition for 3grand.

the fun factor would be way higher

Oh yea! I know where there is a 2000, 800 Summit with relatively low mileage with some gentle mods in that price range....

I had a 1989 Exciter a few years back. Great little trail sled and even quite surprising in the powdery meadows, but if you're thinkin mountain riding with it, You'd probably be disappointed. Track is too short. As mentioned, jetting is an issue. They seem to have a problem bogging in the powder. You can pick em up cheap but you get what you pay for.

yeh just sold our 93 cause the son didnt like ridin it in the pow. not enough jam. piston port engine boggy when it has to start working a bit, major pain in the poop if ya have to do any jetting to them. always spinning as the biggest track you can get under it without major mods is 1.5" and a 136. ours had that took a drop and roll and smaller drivers for it to fit. save your pennies and at least go to a mountain max or somethin like that if your stuck on a yammy.

if your deadset on a yammy gonna be tough to find a good one out there. i see a 03 summit 800 in victoria for 3800 looks really clean. would be really good for ya. alt adjuster on it, lots of power. only thing it would need would be a track upgrade eventually form the 136" but great machine would last you for years.
