Last trip out on the way out of owlhead did a little fooling around in a meadow and it started to backfire and miss like it was hitting the rev limiter but it wasn’t revving past 7200-7300. Was doing it on the trail out too. It’s never done this before except in hard pack but it was actually revving up too fast that time. This time was in a couple feet of fresh.

Looked it over and I only thing I found was one of the clickers was at 1 and the rest at 3 where I had set them. Put them all back to 3 and it’s still doing it. Looked around and didn’t find any wires off or rubbed through.

Any ideas where to look next? Was thinking of checking the reeds but it has no problem going into reverse so not sure it’s that either.

how is your pullcord/recoil? the bolts can back out and break the head off, sending the head into the stator

I've been told a broken primary spring can be very hard to diagnose as well, usually different/weird symptoms leading a guy to look elsewhere.

As I’ve never had the clutch off of this or anything in my life actually that might be a good place to start. I’ll check the recoil out and report back.

hada similar issue with a 13 xm. drained bad fuel replaced plugs and indexed. all was well. would start and idle fine

It ran fine all day pulling hills and whatnot just fine. It wasn’t until the last stop on the way out it started acting up so I have my doubts on it being the fuel. Might huck a set of plugs in it though. 3000km and I doubt they’ve ever been done.

ok. next i would check the rave valve actuation.

pop cover off and ensure they are moving properly

I had the cover off and grabbed the bridge and was able to move them both up and down together if that’s what you mean. Not sure what normal travel is supposed to be but they moved fairly easily about a 1/2 to 3/4”.

3,000km on your XM and it let you down???? nah man, she just needs some love. Slap new plugs in and BAM ready to go another 3k. Seriously mine had similar issue not long ago and was just the plugs...hope yours is a simple fix.

Me too. Been a good sled so far. Probably my last doo I will ever own. Too bad the nearest dealer to buy plugs is in Lethbridge or Calgary.

i should of said also... plugs that were replaced were just NGK PFR7AB not the iridium. Sleds been pulling strong since. Go hit a crappy tire or napa

Take a good look at the plug wires when you do the plugs. Mine were worn right away inside and I had to replace them

Half the coils were melted and the wires leading into the stator were melted. Couldnt see any of that untill the recoil was taken off. Sled would still run amazingly but would fart and pop every once in a while

do not buy plugs at the stealership. I will have to check and see what number they are, but a fraction of what Blowcycle wanted for two plugs and i did replace with the iridium plugs

check one done here but it could also be the vacuum/pressure manifold. I had mine fail and wouldnt close the RAVEs. Yours could be the same.

If its a 15 or 16 it could be the fuel filter or fuel pump. There were some bulletins on the 15's for bad pumps but lately we are seeing more and more plugged fuel filters. Especially guys buying their premium bulk in a sliptank. Lots of rust in those things. Where in Central Alberta are you that you would drive to Lethbridge? Our dealership is in Cochrane and thier is Turps in Red Deer

If you figure it out post it up. I am in the elk valley now so it’s 2 hrs or so to the bridge, and 3 to Calgary. Finding or ordering some in to Napa or lordco would be sweet.

It’s got about 600km on it since I did the fuel filter. Are their any tests to do on the pump or does it have to be plugged in to test? Also are these pump bulletins just updates? Warranted past the standard warranty period?

If I can’t get it figured out by Wednesday there’s a good chance it will be coming to your dealership as I’m burning riding days and not privy to a lot of free time to dick with it right now.
