We've had a total of 52mm of precipitation since November 1st, including all snow.

But it must be arson, has nothing to do with the fact that we no longer get precipitation and everything is tinder dry.....

doesn't take much, throwing a lit cigarette out of a truck window, can easily set a forest on fire, someone with Motivation would have no problem getting a few going. 90% of fires set across Canada last year were known to be human ignited, things must have really changed this year!

i find it interesting most of these fires are right beside access roads, natural caused wildfires can't be discounted, just a bit suspicious in my mind!

They have an app where you can see every lightening strike happens, so they know for 100% certainty if it was caused by a lightening strike or not. Good thing for that.

But there's a difference between accidental and intentionally caused fires.

Teepee Creek fire by GP sounds like was caused by a brush pile that was burnt during the winter and still smoldering. Wind picked up and it took off.

Fort Nelson had reports last year that their forest fires had started burning underground in the dry peat from the muskeg, and would likely burn underground over winter. Again wind picked up and it took off.

yes fires are able to travel underground in the forest, there is a coal seam near here that roars to life every few years, and can't be put out!

It was very windy here the end of last week, any fire that was smoldering or un noticed turned into a fire quick as the wind fanned it.

Official report is that the Ft Nelson fire was started in a wind storm when a tree fell on a powerline. Fire crews attended but it had already spread into a wildfire by the time they got there.

Not sure on rain but in the past couple years California has gotten BC’s snow and BC has Californias normals in the mountains. Definitely the patterns have changed with El Niño. Now that La Niña is staged to replace the current system hopefully that changes back to the way it was.

It is hard to find arsonist and actually charge them, and when they are caught almost no jail time at all, police suspect 29 okanogan fires were arson. The four youths that started the fires in yellow knife ..nothing. They knew the ones in fort Nelson were burning all winter underground and the govt refused to do anything about them. Paid people to sit and keep watch and would not let anyone do anything about it, lots of locals offered to go in and dig and extinguish, govt said no and threatened charges

Yes that’s the one that evacuated the town, but the others that have been threatening for a year are also still going
