Which powersaw to buy

Those things look badass! Definitely the unit to have if a guy were serious about an Alaskan mill. They definitely aren't cheap though!

I error on the size. Thought it was O88 (120cc), however it’s and Stihl o66 (90cc). Haven’t used it a while.....however I attached a Lewis winch to it to haul Bush, moose, deer etc out of the Bush. Works good, however there is no reverse on Lewis winch.

I'm guessing your mostly joking but I came into this completely neutral, did a ton of research, and it seems like it honestly is a coin toss between the two. My local dealer carries both and there is a ton of logging around here. They said when it comes to the smaller homeowner saws, Stihl definitely takes the win. When it comes to pro saws, most loggers choose the husky. Haven't been able to find a negative review of the 572.

Totally unnecessary for me, but I can't wait!

Just stopped in at stihl, the 170 is on sale now for 259.00.Comes with saw, bar attached with chain, spare chain and case . Compared too the 180, I wouldn’t spend the extra money as it’s the same saw as the 170 with easy start and a quick adjust for the chain. Not worth a100 bucks. Think my best bet is too go new unless somebody is under 200 bucks got there next too new one with all the extras.
The salesman told me the 199 sale is usually in the spring. No case or extra chain ( 80 dollar value) you do the math.

Your old Mulloch will out cut those micro chain saws all day. Get any saw not using those micro chains, a MS250 would be my suggestion for an inexpensive home owner saw. On sale I have seen them for about $380.

All I need is a little saw for cutting down the odd tree for firewood . I have a little mccullock ive had for 20 years and it finally crapped the bed a couple summers ago, the little stihl would be a step up for me.

Those low pro piccos are still like cutting maple with a butter knife. The PS and PM all cut about the same and I don’t believe you can buy a power head with a 3/8 bar and Picco chain so by the time you set up the 170 probably paid better part of a saw already equipped that runs a better chain.

The 170 will do lyle just fine, the micro chain will cut slower but it will definitely get the job done. My buddy has one.

I have a MS170 and love it! Great little saw. Used it for limbing before I pulled the log out of the bush to the road for the bigger saw to buck up the blocks.

Carried it on the sled and the quad and it got the job done for the trail blow downs.

If you are going to be dropping trees a helmet and face guard are not a horrible idea with some cut resistant chaps. Cheap safety gear really when it comes down to it.

Being safe with a chain saw is being a Karen?

I guess being the “safety guy” at work for a number of years and actually having taken legitimate saw courses after watching my uncle hack off half his head and shoulder gave me a different perspective.

But hey you want to encourage 100 staples holding your thick skull together you go right ahead.

I fully support being safe with a chainsaw. I guess it is the way you come across and address something that has nothing to do with "which power saw to buy'.

Sorry for your trauma regarding your uncle but let's not let that get in the way of "buying a chainsaw".

Maybe, the COVID has you a little up tight and thinking you have the solution to today's problems. Maybe need to lighten up a little...............
