Sharps saws are the tits. Not sharp, stop cutting. LOL
If it and chippin, it aint worth dippin.
I used to use guides and such, but now only free hand my saws with the proper file.
I buy files by the box. Sharp file, easy to sharpen.
Most people seem to think a 6 dollar file lasts forever.... Also use a file brush and clean them.

Low on wood, so it has already begun for next winter.

Very nice Doug. we did something similar when we used electric splitter. Now we have a 35 ton gas powered with 2 side shelves.

Try to burn in the fire pit as we also love the smell of birch, low smoke, and reduced sparks.

Exactly the same as yours.
Split tons of chords of wood. Just remember to replace the puck board shims. Cheap.
Place on the back tailgate and use that as our platform.
I also store it on the motor end (vertically) to save space.
Way less noisey than gas splitter and smaller for our needs.
Personal preference though. Each and all splitters make less work.

Selling my 572 if anyone is interested. Not much time on it. Just always found myself reaching for the bigger saw.

No matter what saw you own.
Dont forget to flip those bars over.
I touch my chain up and flip the bar after every load of wood.
Others do it less fequently but allows even wear on the bar.
Also grease those tips frequently.

I sharpen my saw every tank full or if I hit something that could of dulled it, if you keep it sharp it doesn't take long.
Cutting with a dull saw suck.
I just use a cheap file gauge. Also sharpen the side that is the most difficult first.
A sharp saw even not perfectly sharpened is better than a dull chain

As far as I can see, you are sharpening the top only.

I want a perfect moon shape to each tooth. Not just the top????

Maybe for others.

Cannot see a chain lasting very long either..

I was thinking the same thing. I don't understand how it could possibly work on a normal chain

I am lazy with saws, went to carbide tipped and never looked back. I dont cut alot though, change it out once or twice a year.

That only works with special chain made for that sharpener. Oregon makes one just like it.

Learning how to hand file is a valuable skill to have. Once you get good you'll sharpen a new chain before you use it, because you can get it sharper than the factory can.

I bought one , used it a few times , haven’t touched it in a couple years. Wasn’t impressed .

Remember to file both sides if one side is smaller it will cut on an angle if it is visible use a micro meter to measure the cutters then file the large ones back and use the proper file use the chart that comes with the chain most common is a 3/16 too small will mess up a chain that can’t be fixed

Hand filing freehand is the way to go, it will teach you what works and what does not. Also hand filing gives the ability to change the angles for the hardness of the wood being cut.

Just got back from the maiden voyage with my 500i. Holy cow is it amazing. I was expecting alot, and it was even better than I thought it would be. Basically as much or more power than my 066, and feels lighter than my 572. The harder you dig it in, the harder it pulls. Unreal
