My father in law is looking for a webasto/proheat style heater to install on a 2006 f350 diesel where should I point him to in Edmonton area? He actually lives in Barrhead so Whitecourt etc is fine to.

Thanks

PS Any idea which ones are better and what they are worth.

Just bought 2 today, one for the Snowcat and one for my Bobcat, 750 each for the heaters, and 350 for the timers. Will come on at 6:30am and be hot by time we arrive at site. Gonna be nice indeed.

As far as install, I have a mobile mechanic, but you arent going to want to pay him to come up there LOL

Just my opinion here, but we shut our off before we start our units...We were told to do this, but im not sure if it was just the mechanics opinion or from the manufacturer.

We always shut ours down, then start the unit...no issues so far...

Have heard from couple people, the latest Ford diesel is having issues with diesel fired coolant heaters. The ecm watches coolant, oil, fuel temp. So when the coolant is around 140F give or take, typically what the small heaters get coolant up to. The oil/fuel temps are whatever outside temp is. Causing some weirds things, so maybe thats why your truck is acting odd. We are having some of the same problems on the new 2010 DetroitDiesel13/15's in Class 8 trucks. Just call the factory, get an engieer guy to rewrite the software to allow the coolant temp to be hotter until the other temps catch up & stablize. I have a Webasto TSL17 that I installed in 03 dodge, its likely the best aftermarket thing I installed on the truck. When temp is -40c, truck sitting outside, coolant temp gets to 142F. The whole engine is toastee warm, awesome! Webasto/Espar are both made in germany, have pretty much 50/50 market share of the world. It likely comes down to who will give you better service after the sale. Yes Proheat makes heaters, but there way too big for a 1/2 diesel truck. Plus they cost alot more than is ever needed in a little truck.

2hrs gets coolant up to 140F roughly. Has a low battery voltage shutoff. The heaters come with a toggle switch, turn it on, runs for couple hrs. Shuts itself off when up to temp. When temps gets low enough turns back on. They sell timers, just like an alarm clock. Set to whenever you want it to come on, runs for 2hrs. Since the heaters are about the size of loaf of bread, that is the time limit. With the webasto heater, you can use a proheat timer & it will run for longer time. But not really needed, temp is roughly 50F off opearting temp, so the engine will start up real nice. The heater is around a grand, but sure screw people on the timer, around 350. I still have a toggle switch.

Got my spar installed on my 06 F350 at polar mobility. Hands down best purchase for my truck. At -40 it starts like it's +20 out.
