Love this thread. First sled was a 1989 340 jag. Got it in 1994. Ran better with the hood off. I remember taking moms turkey baster and keeping it down beside my belt. One shot in the carb with gas and started second pull every time. It met its final demise on the back side of the lumber mill across the road. The gate was always open, until someone decided that whoever was sledding on the sawdust piles was gonna get hurt. The gate got closed one night and so did that great two year chapter for the 340 jag. I was hooked though. It was a beauty. The machine died but it took that gate with it. R.I.P.

my first mountain sled was 1991 indy 500, but my first time to mountains was when I was toddler with my parents in the 70's in the Kananaskis.

I was born in Quebec and started my life on snowmobiles, both my mom and my uncle(her brother) worked for Bomb in Valcourt. So yellow was my first as there was lots of them.
I move to BC in 76 and bought my first sled here as a youngster, so my mountain sledding experience started on a new 76 Skiroule rtx 440 and in 78 saw the light and bought my first A/C Panther. In 84 bought my first Yamaha, first model year Phazer and rode multiple Yamaha's till the mid 90's and went back to A/C with multiple of them till 2000 where i was approached by BRP for sponsorship and advertising. I was given two new 2000 Summit Highmarks and pretty much rode Doo till 09.
Now i'm back with A/C and Yamaha and will most likely end my sledding life this way.
I have owned way too many sled's to list but that is the gist of it.

Great thread. And thanks for bringing it back.
I have been sledding pretty much my entire life. My parents had a cabin in Central Alberta on an Island. I was a 1 year old getting bundled up put into the cutter behind my Dads 69 RUPP and off across the ice we would go. When I was 6 I could just see over the hood when standing and that’s when I drove for the first time. As crazy as it sounds I do remember the excitement of hitting the throttle and the roar of that engine and carb right in my face. I have been riding snowmobiles every winter since………
My first mountain trip was Dec of 88. We loaded up the old truck and headed to Vale. I had a brand new 89 Indy 500 and buddies had an 81 Yamaha Excell V and a 86 SRV. These pics are from that trip

We spent a full day on the Alan creek trail and didn’t make it to the top. The second day we ran into some locals with a bunch of Doos with 1 1/2 pvc pipe cut in half bolted to the tracks. They broke us to the cabin the next day and haven’t missed a winter in the mountains since

These next pics were taken at the back of Premier range. How I made it back there following those sleds I’ll never know. The blue sled was a Specialty sleds custom SLP 700 156 with 2 inch paddles. It worked damn good and pretty much had straight pipes the others were ported piped 650’s

Who needs a 174. In 93 I took the girlfriend up Clemina and she road an ET 300 with 1 inch paddles. It was pretty hilarious seeing everyone’s reaction when she pulled up to the top on that thing lol

The last few shots are random from that time. I also had to include a couple pics of how we got to the mountains back in the day.
Nothing better than an old rear wheel drive Chevy 1/2 ton with a deck......... I am sure I saw a thread about this some where lol
I will keep looking for the pic of this truck pulling the 4 place too....

Awesome pics and stories! Out of curiosity how many people perished due to the deck on that truck?

I had never been near a sled.
But after spending time with Lund over seas in Europe and him telling stories and how he missed it and every time he went back to Canada if the season permit he would get out on the sled triggered my curiosity about them.
My first opportunity when I got back was an assignment with the Rangers in the artic, well that wasn't exactly what Lund said sledding was about LOL.
Then it wasn't till I retired from the forces in 98. Lund talked me into it and now I have met some awesome friends and learnt to ride with some very skilled rider's. Glad I took up the sport, its been great.

Yes I forgot to say, I have officially been riding since the winter of 1999, so about 18 seasons, wow how time goes buy and I ride Artic Cat.

Started riding in the mountains in 1992 on a Cycle Works trip to Revy. They took all the sleds in a semi car hauler trailer and we partied in a bus there and back. Good times! Took the rental Indy 500 with a 136" track with 1/2" lugs all the way back to Turbo on my first day. Hooked ever since!https://uploads.tapatalk Did you k...rks? One of my crazy cousins back in the day.

Who pioneered these area the loggers? When did all the cabins get built and were they solely for sledders? I've been riding since 2000 first sleds were 98ultra 680 triple with a drop and roll and a 144 and 98? Attic cat 580 with a 136 with 2" paddles
