When did you start sledding in the mountains?

I started riding the mountains in 1968......on one of these. Things have changed just a tad since then!

Cool old pictures. I grew up in Kitimat B.C. around 1972 and our family friends had a 440 Arctic Cat,first ride is still a great memory,although he took me off of a 10ft step at the school yard, all good until he stood up I slid underneath him and then we landed. Still knocks the wind out of me thinking about it.LOL. We moved to Quesnel B.C. after 1974 and only went sledding once in the Wells/Barkerville area and loved it. Fast forward 30yrs and I just bought my first mountain sled and have a trip to McBride planned for the weekend of the 14th of Dec,and I can't wait.

And then there is my sister too... and yes that was actually HER sled. 521 Rotax transplanted into a 1985 Formula MX with a 136x15x2" paddle track (the first Camo with built-in paddles)

I started riding in the mountains when I moved to Sparwood in 1996. Had a indy sport 440 long track(133") and got stuck lots. Didn't have a beacon or probe and any ideal what so ever about avi's. Most of use didn't even have shovels! Still alive today and loving the sport. Kinda changed when I go as I really don't go if its -15 or colder. Back then didn't matter was temperature was.

Been riding the mountains since about 1974 we rode sno jet till Kawasaki bought them out, tapered the invader tunnels in about 1979. My pops was the sno jet dealer up here,then the Kawasaki dealer till about 1980. Should do a vintage mountain ride, don't think the back would take that abuse now. Hahaha

ahhh buck lake bob. I bought a brand new 85 plus from him. Made first trip to mtns in 86 winter. It was unbelievable no groomed trail then. Had the 521 shaved head with .049 squish and 207 rotary valve. Can you say power!! Still have sled today!!My first sled however was a 1969 669 TNT. Wish I had it.

Amazing how much fun could be had before GPS, Digital Cameras, Camcorders, CD's, DVD's, Spot locators, Cell phones, iPhones, iPads, Fuel Injection, Electronic carbs, altitude compensation, digital power valves, and so on...

Bought a 700 RMK, loaded it up on friend's sled deck and broke it in in Vale.

1997, started with a 96 600 XLT. Still remember the sound. loved it. Rode hard and lots for quite a few years till I started having Kids and shut it down about 2004. Then took a break and fired it back up in 2009. Things were different then. You could actually ride at home, go to rallies. All seems like a thing of the past now. The only place you can ride is west of here now.

Started riding in the mountains in 1992 on a Cycle Works trip to Revy. They took all the sleds in a semi car hauler trailer and we partied in a bus there and back. Good times! Took the rental Indy 500 with a 136" track with 1/2" lugs all the way back to Turbo on my first day. Hooked ever since!

2000 with a 2001 RMK 800 144". After a 30 year lay off! Had done a lot of sledding in the early 70s. Was hooked!

West Yellowstone in December 1998 on a Mountain Max 600 w/ Smart Carbs and a 136" 1.5" track. I was hooked and the rest is history. I didn't know it was possible to have that much snow in one place. Then I discovered Revy the next year....
