whats a good all around sled?

My 1999 summit 670x 144" is a blast to play with in the fresh powder, also a kick azz ditch bangin machine and I'm pretty sure it would haul a moose if it had too...only probalem with 670's is the price, guys still want stupid money for them, almost cheaper to buy an 800 summit.

Got a 1963, Snow Cruiser 207. She'll do 0 - 30 is 6.5 minutes. It'll tow 4 moose at once, and will climb about anything with the floatation of the 23" track.....and sound......AWESOME, like a Cessna 150, you like air planes don't ya....

I figure if a 2001-2003 summit 800 151 X 2 can be had for $3800-4800

then a 1999/98/97 670 with a 136 is a stretch at 3500/3800/4200/4500

I bought my 670x 2 years ago with 2000-ish km on it and a 144 x 2" track with reverse and near mint condition for $3000

I think any s chassis should be $2500 if mint and down from there...

But thats just me...

I would think that if you have bought land near Valmount that mountain riding will be more important than pulling a moose out of the bush. Any mountain sled will pull a moose out if you cut it in pieces, plus be much more fun to ride than a work sled, but that is just my opinion. I also have an opinion about what make of sled to buy but will keep that to myself.

hey all you sledders what is a good all around sled for pullin out a moose to climbing a steep powdered trail in the alpine?
i like the 800 summit because it looks cool and sounds hot and i know it climbs like crazy but worried the 2 strokes are not tough but fast only. I want dependability over performance i think?

get a summit 800 ill throw a 174 3" on for you and tractor gearing. 18/51 will pull a moose out of the bush and a house off its foundation

I would reccommend a newer Tundra 550 LT. I use one at work to tow a heavy skimmer, and its surprisingly capable in the mountains. Also its fan cooled and has been reliable.

well im also on your side witha summit but a yamaha apex would be good cuz its a 4 stroke and has lots of climbing power down side its heavey

Polaris Indy 500 liquid, Best sled ever by Polaris, with a 136 2 inch, good deep snow and on trails .I had a 92 500 with over 20,000 kms on original motor, never opened up. was a trappers sled till 16,000 .then I followed him for few yrs before I sold it to young fellow who uses on farm?

I bought a 03 Polaris 800 159 Mountain sled w reverse and never plan on going there, price was right and a good friend owned it that looks after things.would rather have a 600 RMK elec start reverse with a 136 2 in..BUT, this is what I found.

I used Skandic 550's SWT and WT for work. They are great utility sleds and are amazing in deep snow and super reliable. The downfall is the fun factor is limited and over a certain steepness they will no longer go. I have brought people mountain sledding with them and a lot of places they can't get up the trail once it gets steep. Deep powder on lower slopes though and you can't beat them. I had the Skandic for work and Summit for play. Short of 2 sleds i think like others mentioned the new tundras would be the way to go for a mix of both.

Unless you are doing lots of work just figure another way to get the moose out and get a 800 class mountain sled...they're a hell of lot more fun than a skandic.

Also where can you hunt moose in the winter anyway

We run a 550 tundra lt for my work and it's a surprisingly capable sled. They are geared really low for pulling heavy loads and it climbs really well too. With a skilled rider on board I've seen that sled do things you wouldn't think possible...just don't expect to do it very fast.

i would say and apex outfitted with a hitch would fit the bill just right. lots of power, super reliable and from the amount of trees i seen my buddy mow over with his, there super tough aswell. but as there was already mentioned the bearcat, and the tundra watever were also listed as descent sleds for a work grade enviroment. there was a feature article on work grade sleds in a sled magazine recently, but i dont remember wich one.

tundra or elan...you can still get on top of any mountain just might take all day or week ,but you don,t seem to be in a hurry:d.it will pull out a moose too.

at work (rabbit hill) for snowmaking we use a '02 ski-doo touring 550, it gets rolled, crashed and everything you can think of. it still runes like a top, you'd be suprised what we pull UP HILL with them no problem, but i dont know if that would pull out a moose, well i'm sure it would, but it depends on how steep of hill you want to climb, if i were you i'd look in to a skidoo tundra, they will puss anything and go anywhere

i have an 2002 800 summit and this sled has been used for it all. pulled 2 bison out, and them bitchs are huge and 3 moose, a handfull of caribou. this thing wont haul my arse as high as the new ones will ,but it will get me to the fun powder at the bottom and into riding country that is well past my ability. has been a little rough on the bumper at the back but there cheap. and you wont be pulling moose out while breaking trail, ease into the bogan and an 800 should do fine, what ever brand you choose.

I love my crossfire 800. can do the mountains and trails and ditches. at times i wish i had got the M8 for the longer track,
