There is also two kinds of 3d the kind that uses movie theatre glasses $5 and the powered type at about $70 a pair so if you want to have a few friends over for a movie it gets pricey. Or if you or the kids sit on them lol.

Is there a viewing quality difference between the passive and the powered 3d glasses?

Of course there is a difference between tv and blu ray because of the fact they put millions and millions into a movie which takes sometimes up to a few years just to complete the filming and special effects and then to transfer that to the highest quality of recording via blu ray. That movie on TV is displayed in 1080P however the channel that is broadcasting it is probably using a DVD to play the movie or something of that quality. Your tv will display it in 1080P, but the broadcast is less than superior to the blu ray

Bell sat can be 1080P but it depends on the channel and if they choose to broadcast it in 1080P or 720P. I watched HD movies on my bell and switched inputs to the same movie on Blu ray and there was a noticable difference.

Kill Bill II when she is in the coffin you can see her outline on blue ray on the bell HD it was just a black screen.

perhaps a better understanding of what 1080i and 1080p would be in your best interest as progressive and interlaced are indeed two different things being displayed at exactly the same resolution...

no all your bell and fibre optic is not being displayed at 1080p...

Cuso, enjoy your new TV, whatever it is you decide on after reading this thread

,. Id steer clear of Sony because in the next year or so they won't even be making televisions anymore( losing too much money in that segment ) .
absolute BS. Sony isn't going anywhere, if you would like to place a wager on your prediction, i would be happy to take your money.

My parents got a 50+" (not sure if a 52 or 55) lg smart tv. Has a tiny frame. 3d. The tv is unbelievable! Think its a led. All the new TVs are good. I have a LCD led and plasma. Plasma is old an will burn in easy, I like that my led has a built in shut off feature if there is no signal after a while.

Actually I went into Bestbuy, they had a pretty good deal on a Sony Bravia 50 inch Smart LED, with a blueray surround sound for 1299.00 I told them to hold it because they were closing. I'm thinking of jumping on it.

I asked the sales guy, who seemed pretty knowledgeable about pretty much what I asked, and he mentioned that sony is getting out of manufacturing LCD TV's

they are going away from LCD and putting all their efforts into LED. OLED is not cost effective to build en mass yet, they are crazy expensive. their newest coming out in November is an 84" LED, at a princely sum of $24,999. as of August 2012 it has the highest resolution of ANY 80+ inch television. Sony makes good ch!t, don't let the fanboys of lower priced stuff sway you.

There may still be TV's with the name Sony on them but soon it won't be Sony making them, the production is gonna be outsourced to other profitable TV manufactuars who will make a TV similar to the ones they already make and they will slap a Sony logo on them, the TV division at Sony has shown a loss in the billions of yen every year for the last nine years in a row so somethings gotta give, expect huge restructuring of the Sony corp. over the next two years

they aren't going to stop building televisions.

If you watch any sports or action movies it is well worth the money to look for the 240hz. Also make sure and look into the extended warranty as Sony is excellent with warranty. In the spring I got a brand new LED 55" 240hz 1080P Sony Bravia Internet TV before it even hit the shelves for free as my old LCD rear projection that I bought in 2007 started having color issues(still works great just poor color). Never had any issues, just phoned them, sent in a couple pictures and wallah, new TV is in the mail.(now if I could only get rid of the old one, LOL) The picture is amazing on this TV. Very similar to the plasma's in black levels and fast movements. I have also bought 2 Panasonic Plasma's in the past year for other members of the family and they are also excellent, one is even in the upstairs living room at my aunt's house with a huge bay window(very bright room) and she has no issues with glare or low picture quality due to this, the brightness of the room has nothing to do with the picture, but if you have any lights directly behind you they will glare off the TV due to the glass screen.

Samsung and Sony have been in partnership for some years now, and Sharp builds a lot of sony's high end stuff.

120 to 240 is like a gino in price difference... is it that much better?

Which store did you see that? Which models?
Future shop, the best comparison I could find was $700 difference with the online sale prices..Their MSRP was like 1200$ difference.

LG 1080 smart 120 vs 240
And when I was in B.B. the upgrade seemed even less appealing.

The difference in the LG 120 to 240 was only $200
