My thoughts & prayers are for the victims of this senseless tragedy, the parents who don't have their children coming home tonight, the children who lost their youthful innocence living thorugh this, to the teachers who bravely tried to protect the kids, the police & paramedics who responded to the scene and now struggle with what they had to deal with. They are not alone in their grief or their struggle to live through this.

What a sad situation!I'm starting to wonder with these school shootings it seems like the guys are about the age that were raised with all the demented video games that came out!It seems that they have a hard time placing value on human life! The games that came out in the last 20 years have a ton of killing in them and since then it seems to be a ton of school shootings! Before it seemed to be the odd mailman that went haywire!I think its enough of these video games and maybe the parents should make better choices on what their kids do.It's just a theory but back in the day of pacman and asteroids there seemed to be no school shootings! And making more gun laws and rules will just make things harder on the law obiding citizens than the criminals! If someone is wanting to kill someone they will find a way!!But before this a-hole killed himself it would have been nice to know why!!Anyone who harms children should be put to death, none of this excuse of they were mentally ill and ch!t and that goes for the priests and all the people in power over kids!!The kids that survived are going to be harmed for life also!

I was completely speechless when we watched this story on the news last night. My wife is a elementary school teacher, and stories like this hit home in our house.Needless to say there were many tears in our home last night. Our prayers go out to all the families of the victims of this horrible tragedy, and all the people who did all that was in there power to protect these innocent children. God Bless

Lots of problems in our society, thousands of f.a.s kids being born every year. Autism on the rise with parents waiting to have children later in life. It is time to get to the root of the problem, no have children if your an alcoholic, drug addict or older than 30. Not saying this has anything to do with this shooting... but it certainly has a lot to do with the problems directly facing our society today. However these issues will never be addressed. Seems moms have a right to ruin their babies lives.

very sad indeed but gun controll is not a solution it will only make it worse took all of the guns away in Britain and then we had to bail them out when they didnt have any piers morgan just cant see the need for guns well if they take all the guns away the bad people will always have them and it would ruin it for responsible people from using them or protecting ourselves, how come nobody blames the gunman its always the guns that just seem to kill, condolences tofamily and friends very gutwrenching and very sad

Well said!!!!

TURN OFF THE NEWS.......

Morgan Freeman's brilliant take on what happened yesterday :

"You want to know why. This may sound cynical, but here's why.

It's because of the way the media reports it. Flip on the news and watch how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single *victim* of Columbine? Disturbed
people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he'll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody.

CNN's article says that if the body count "holds up", this will rank as the second deadliest shooting behind Virginia Tech, as if statistics somehow make one shooting worse than another. Then they post a video interview of third-graders for all the details of what they saw and heard while the shootings were happening. Fox News has plastered the killer's face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the killer's identity? None that I've seen yet. Because they don't sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you've just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next.

You can help by forgetting you ever read this man's name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem. You can help by turning off the news."

We live on a farm and yes we have guns, hunting rifles and shot guns. Used to belong to a gun club and owned a .22 berretta, long since been sold since we don’t make the time to go to the range any more.
I even understand collecting guns, I happen to know a man that has a huge gun collection, but why would this lady / teacher / mother had those particular guns she did and why would they be accessible to a child that has mental health issues....

I grief for the families and am not a fan of gun control, but I do belief military style weapons that were in this house hold have no place in the hands of the average person that just wants them......

I cannot imagine the grief these survivors and families are going through......what ever god you look to for comfort, send them there way.....

*sigh* Everytime this happens everyone always is looking to blame someone or something for it happening. LOOK AT THE FACTS, gun control doesn't work, all it does is take guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens enjoying their Personal Liberty. Need proof, look how effective laws are with drug control. Its time we stop restricting our freedom and turning ourselves into a police state, and start being responsible for our actions.

Now the media is going to argue about gun control and show this villain's face all over the world. Meanwhile the victims will be nameless, the heroes will be unheard of.

Instead of giving a criminal his 15 minutes of fame, lets recognize the accomplishments of the fallen, and the bravery of the survivors.

My deepest condolences to the victims and families of this tragedy and my apology on behalf of the media for sensationalizing your situation.

I'm all for personnel liberties and as stated not a fanof control, but I do feel certain guns like the ones used in this tragedy haveno place in the hands of Joe average, what the hell do people need with a semiautomatic Bushmaster XM-15 assault rifle and a 9mm Glock. The mother was acollector, would be interesting to know why they weren’t better secured.

Just as in Motorized Sports, Technology advances year to year. In the case of guns, the Bushmaster AR-15, is an advancement, It is also much safer to operate than a lot of hunting rifles of old. Also Check your facts, an "assault rifle" is "
a military rifle capable of both automatic and semiautomatic fire" That of which in Canada is illegal for a civilian to own (and restricted in most states). But this is EXACTLY what i was talking about, it is never the tools fault in actions of misuse.

However your argument that these have no place in average Joe's hand, i will have to disagree. Not only do concealed carriers stop crimes, they also deter it. Don't believe me? In Switzerland, it is mandatory for every 20-30 year old to receive training, own and maintain a firearm (a full automatic firearm in most cases). Yet their homicide rate is one of the lowest in Europe, especially homicides involving firearms. IT'S NOT THE GUNS!

I am, however, a Huge advocate in gun safety, Shooting sports have the lowest injury rate of all sports for a reason. Education is key, Banning certain guns only takes them out of the hands of the innocent, the same as locks only keep honest people out. How about instead of focusing on the tools, lets focus on the people. Same goes with our beloved motorized sports, we need to make people aware. Instead of allowing the liberal media to make us all out like vicious criminals whose only intent is one thing, killing. (or in the case of motorized sports, letting them make us out to be crazy adrenaline seeking maniacs with no regard for human life.)spe

Given the choice to have this poor young man with obviousmental disorder come into that school with a butcher knife from the kitchen oreven gramps 303 vs a semi auto (non Assault rifle) I think I'd take my chanceswith the knife or the single shot 303, even with a clip, you can only shot andreload so fast.

I am not nor never have said that the gun's killed, but look around at thenumber of these rifles being accessed easily by people that shouldn’t haveaccess. I also grew up at a rifle and pistol range, both myself and my wifehave competed in sports with firearms. My children have also grown up aroundthem and even though they are all between 19 and 25. The keys to the gun cabinetas well as the trigger locks are unavailable and knock on wood they don’t haveany know mental issues.....our liqueur aren’t locked and the keys to equipment, trucks and cars aren’t locked. It’s notthat I don’t trust our kids, but we do have kind of an open door policy withours and our kids friends so I just feelbetter knowing the guns are locked and not accessible.

A lot would have to change both here and in the US tohave a gun policy like in Switzerland, just look at the stats at how manypeople in Texas are killed by stray bullets, each year. Take a look at the roadrage going on in Canadian cities, I couldn’t imagine what would happen ifeveryone was carrying a gun.

Criminals will always have guns, but I wouldn’t live orraise my kids in a place that everyone was carrying a gun.

I am of the opinion weather you have gun control or no gun control,MANY other factors come into play..........We are getting to the point where some of the kids who were raised on video games,by day care workers,in crack houses, multiple abusive step parents, ETC ETC...Have a tough time fitting into society in a productive manner.

We seem to of lost alot of family/human kindness and structure. Some of our kids heros are gangster rappers who make a living yappin about shooting people....All of this fueled by relentless media/social media. Now i am not saying everyone is bad because of this scenario. However i do fear when some of our children fall through the cracks , unimaginable tragedy`s are in some ways a direct result...............

for those of you who'd like a little more education on firearms.

Thanks for the video. I get the concept. Not to turn a thread about a terrible event into a gun control thread but......in the recent shootings in the u.s. I don't believe (correct if I'm wrong) its fully automatic weapons that are being used. Is it not semi-auto rifles with larger (more than 3-5) magazines?
