Well guys it’s been a long day. The guy that was supposed to look at my boat ended up rolling his quad. Long story short I got my boat back. Ripped the quick fuel off and put a brande new brawler 650 on it. Took er down the river and it ran good. Went to pull the boat out of the water and I somehow managed to get water in it it. I don’t have flappers on my exhaust. The only thing I can think of is I turned it off at too high of rpm, and it Diesel’ed. My manifolds are fine. I somehow took water. Anyways. I got it all out, pulled plugs, changed oil blah blah blah. It’s going to jetcraft tomorrow. Long day.

Ah that sucks! Hope you get it fingered out ASAP

I spent the last couple nights redoing my reverse bucket and nozzle. Had a stripped bolt so can’t believe my bucket didn’t fall off. Then broke a small stainless bolt off in the nozzle. But it’s better then new now. I tightened my nozzle up so I don’t get sand locked steering as bad ( I hope)

Good evening gang. Thought I better update all on what I ended up finding. Turns out my timing was out. I was at 20 deg at 3000rpm. The only thing I can think of is that I changed the electric card out on the top of my distributor. But I honestly have no idea. The distributor was tight. Runs like a champ now.

is there anything suspect in the distributor? Had a used motor/boat, I once opened up a pro billet to find 2 good weights on light springs... also found another broken weight in there that was giving me a headache for a while.... now they get locked out lol

That’s what Rod and Nick and jetcraft said. I ran it for 4 days on the lake and it ran awesome. If it does it again I’m pulling it out. It came out of my 305 vortec. I looked it over.

HEI? nice to put the little module in for rev limiter and not have to run a coil too.

But on the other hand... my brother went through 2 HEI coils last summer, quick fix but need the spare.

Your talking about the red msd? HA6 or something along that line ?

HEI distributors can have a few colors of caps but does not need an external coil so there's only 8 spark plug wire connections, the coils built into the center of the distributor cap. its a Simple simple set up, BIG cap. Aftermarket sells a small chip that replaces the stock module and allows you to set a rev limiter to any rpm.

6AL is an external multiple spark box and can be red, black or blue depending on model. it can have a rev limiter or even a tune loaded into it. for moderate power levels.

The 6AL is the one I was thinking of.

Do not use these as they are junk . I ran one years ago and was warned about them .
Did I listen ? Nope and just about caused me some real trouble .
Run the General stuff as it works or what was suggested earlier by NBrakes

I will say this. I did learn a heck of a lot here doing this swap. If I was to do it again I would buy a complete marine drop in. Did I save money doing it this way? Naa. A lot of lost time and a spare carb that’s brande new and has nothing wrong with it. In the end I was able to redo my electrical, fusing and install a heater and stereo. New throttle and cables. New wiper motor. When the river cleans up here I will give a good test. Take some spare fuel and cover some water. So far I really notice the torque on this 350 over the 305. I cut some weight without that kicker now too. Completely different feeling boat.

I know its wild to compare a crate to package swap. I have always run hot rodded crates to now but my twin build has 2 marine power 350 packages going in. I always say in life, the cheap man pays twice!

Alternator, starter, carb, manifolds, risers, water pump, these parts add up separately purchased. The marine power was a direct replacement too. Wiring and bolt up. We had the old one disconnected and out in two hours. In one day a guy could have the drop-in in and running no problem.

Mmmmm yes. Yes you did. And I did not listen lol. Also, if I had a $100 for every time I heard “shoulda put a 6.2 in er” I could have bahahaha.
