Was at Allen yesterday with waist deep snow. I'm pretty sure Clemina was about the same from some of the reports I had from friends that were in the area. It has been snowing like made for the last couple days so you should have a great trip. Be safe.

Rode allen on wed and thursday. Close to a foot in the parking lot on wed morning, snowing with poor visabilty all day but waist deep powder in the sheltered areas. Thursday was a little better with the sun poking thru every now and then. We were the only ones past the little wall into premeir, turned around as the weather closed in befour the super bowl.Headed home leaving a heavy snowfall warning for the yellowhead.

There is a serious weak layer of sugar about 3 or 4 feet down, be very carefull as new snow piles on this gernade about to go off.

Snow conditions are amazing in the entire area. Please use enjoy this fresh snow safely and stay off the big stuff for a good while

Trail into chappell is in excellent shape with over the hood snow everywhere !

Allan Creek is in great shape with excellent snow and lots of fresh to be had.

Clemina just as good if not better.

The user numbers have been down this weekend, so there is plenty of fresh kicking around.

I only have pictures of Chappell as I ended up with a terrible back injury yesterday that left me bed ridden and is sending me to emergency today(What a B-day) fresh snow and unable to ride:(

Large quarter size flakes have been falling in town all morning and it looks like its not stopping

Excellent deep snow riding, But PLAY SAFE

Chappell is in excellent shape with waist deep fresh snow. The trail will be groomed again on Thursday evening and will be run for Friday and Saturday

Keyhole is still accessed from the old way for the time being. We are pushing snow to fill in a creek that we need to cross to access the "new" trail from the Clemina lot. We have received good doses of snow lately, but I would still be a bit leary about the rocks in this area.

Hello All

Yes we did have a fatality this Friday in Clemina. It happened on the two tier bowl just behind the cabin on the backside of the old hillclimb. I feel for all involved in this tragety.

A pretty somber Sat and Sun around here with most riders just enjoying the sunshine and their time on the mountain. Our Hosts rode around all weekend talking with different groups about avalanche safety and most were very interested and appreciative.

Remember, there are many places to play safe, Chappell Creek is a perfect example, full of small rolling hills and meadows, and usually holds the deepest snow in our area. The lakes and meadows around the cabin at Allan Creek are also a great place to ride safe as well as the lower elevation areas at Clemina, which also has some amazing tree riding.

Dont stop doing what you love, just get as much education as you can relating to backcountry travel, know your local weather, and when all signs are telling you to ease off, for goodness sakes listen. Boonin and tree bashin are some of the most exciting days for me on the mountain, anyone can go straight up a hill, but follow me on a techy line through the trees and man, thats were the fun starts !

Please play safe out there and PM me, or phone or email the VARDA office(Wed or Thurs) for quick updates.

Our sport has great rewards, such as seeing sights that those who do not get into the backcountry will never be able to see, as well as the friendships we develope on the hill. Its not about the biggest and the baddest anymore, all machines are built so well, that they can take an average person higher than ever before, but its about enjoying the backcountry and making it home to those who love us.

Ride safe and Ride smart

Curtis

Hey Curtis,
You mind if we hook up with you or Dwayne for a ride again this year? Be or second time out to Vale and would like to know the names of the areas we go to & so we know what is safe and what is not. Aswell as using are common sense(as I'm sure someone will throw that comment out!!)

Curtis, just curious if you submitted this letter to the Sentinel. I think the whole town and area could benefit from these words of wisdom

A good idea to submit this to the local Jasper Papers as well just to further pass along this great info. All we can do to spread the word and help save lives is what we should be aiming for.
