It is a long drive to Cooke City. From Great Falls to Cooke and back was an all day (over 12 hours) adventure. I don't know what the road would be like in the winter, but it is narrow and seems that there is no where to put the snow from the plows. The trees are just about right on the shoulder (there was no shoulder, I should have said right on the edge of the road). The riding would have to be phenomenal for that long a drive. It did snow when we were there (hard to tell in the picture but the mountain above the trees has snow on it!).

On another note, from Lethbridge to Sparwood, there were 392 recreational type vehicles yesterday afternoon. I counted anything pulling a trailer (excluding horse trailers, semi's, or construction type trailers) with quads, sea-doos, and all camper type rigs. That was about 2 every km.......:d

Did you take Hwy 89 or 212 Doug? It's my understanding that 212 isn't plowed in the winter. There is a staging area and you can ride your sled in to town.

89 from Livingston. The 212 is from the east and would be good for the guys from Man and Sask and the eastern states. If I wanted a road trip down in that neck of the woods, it would be a two day drive to Cooke and then I would come around by Butte/Missoula/Kalispel and make is a one week trip. Even if one stayed in Livingston, it would be a two hour winter drive into Cooke in the winter as it would be snowy and probably slippery.
