Tire sealant stuff.....

so, I have a tire on one of my vehicles that has a real slow leak....I need to add air every 7 or 8 days....maybe 4 or 5 in cold, cold weather.....getting to be a pain.

I was going to spray in that tire sealant but was told that stuff don't work long term and could cause an out of balance tire...shake.

I figured at least one or two guys on here may have an opinion....

Tire sealant makes it impossible to buff a patch in if need be


Don't be so cheap, take it to a tire shop and get it fixed

You should get your tire fixed, especially if you're losing air that fast. Keep that tire goop for emergency repairs just to get you home.

I've used it but better off just taking it in. I think the best use for the stuff is in quad tires that have slow leaks. I have a slow leak because of a nail in my tire. Need to get it fixed. Found it Saturday. Didn't have time to take it in before leaving town.

Soapy water, check for bubbles. Valve stems are common and easy fixes. I use the sticky plugs and never have a problem after that. Not worth the $25 tire patch.

My dad told me horror stories about that "slime" sealant. Turns into a real pain to try and change the tire after that supposedly.

Rim bead seal leaks have become a VERY common problem in the last few years. Aluminum wheels seem to corrode alot lately. The cold weather definitely makes those leaks more prevalent. Takes about 30 - 45 minutes to pull the tire off the rim, clean up all the corrosion, and then seal up the bead.

120 psi in tire should be good for 3 or 4 weeks
