I have 20% on my side windows of my truck.......no problem so far .....knock on wood!.......in 22 year and over 80 different cars/trucks going to say 75% of those had window tint that was ilegal......and 50% of those had 20% window tint on the side windows.........and 100% of the cars/truck I have had....... have NEVER had a tint ticket.......but now that I said it I will get one tomorrow! lol

I know people that have gotten tickets for window tint......but roll them down if you see a cop.......if it is -35 make sure you take your time and ask lots of question.....just to make sure that cop gets very cold writing your ticket......

remember that tint is measured in two ways. %light penetration or %darkness i guess. any tint shop ive gone to measure it in light penetration, so 20% tint is fairly dark and about equivalent to what comes fromt he factory. 35% is lighter, etc etc. however some other tints ie canadian tire tint might be measured in a different way. something to keep in mind.

ya 5% is basically blacked right out......only lets 5% of the light in.......20% you cant make out a face when you look through.....very hard to see when backing up at night lol......I roll my side windows down to back into the yard. 35% is slightly darker that factory side windows and lighter than factory rear tinted windows.....if you run 35% on side windows you would never get a ticket unless the cop hates you........20% on the side is 100% noticable and stands out like a sore thumb......but I have never had a ticket from this......5% on all windows except the front windsheild....I have only done on my Buick Grand National just because it was a Bad A$$ car and would never do it again.......way to hard to see through at night. but you could not see me driving it even if you put your face right up to the window! never buy cheap tint........get the pro stuff from a tint shop......I used to tint window when I had car Accessory/stereo shop 10 years ago.......I did build a 52 ford truck that I used tinted safety glass that had no film on the outside......I did all the windows including the front windsheild........it looked so cool and got stopped a few times.......the law here in BC at the time said no film alowed on eather side of the glass........I told the cops to scratch all they like at it with a knife......never got a ticket....lol

Had 5% on everything but the front windshield for about a year and a half, 2 tickets and 1 warning. First one was like 3 weeks after I didn't bother rolling down windows, cop seen it stopped at a light and got ticket. Second was passing a cop going other way rolled them down in pouring rain got a warning. Third was a laser radar ticket he noticed em and give me a ticket for one window. But for the most part I never rolled them down around cops, mostly just peace officers because they like to give useless tickets like that.

It's $70 per window, so usually $140 for the ticket.

Will do it again in a heartbeat once I get another truck I plan to keep for a long time. But this time I will get a windshield brow, regret not getting it before. I really want 50% on the whole windshield but i'm kind of worried about the attention from it.....

I cannot stand driving without tint. Such a big difference. Tough adjustment to night driving but get use to it.

I paid $300 I believe for all 4 doors and back 3 piece slider on my dodge. Seemed really fair and was a great job. I'd suggest going darker on the rear though to make the front look lighter, even if you go 5% front go double 5% rear or something. The factory tint is like 18% on dodges.

Technically they arent allowed to do that. They are supposed to give you a week to take it off and prove it. Otherwise you would be driving around all day with glue on your window.

I would rather pay the ticket. just end up paying the price of the ticket to pay for new tint anyways.

exactly... or take it off, get no ticket, then go get darker tint lol.

It was $140 for me to get 2 front windows done. in my area thats about what it costs. the more you get done at once, then better deal you get. as far as where to go, just make sure they are a reputable place. most professional shops offer lifetime warranty against peeling, bubbling and fading.

what is the cop going to do if u refuse to roll up your window so he can scratch it? also i thought they weren't allowed to reach into your vehicle.

So far in 4 years one warning and one ticket, I would not reccommend tinting your front windows cause if nothing else it is just a reason for them to stop you. I got my ticket at a checkstop and them other time I was driving normal and they stopped me and gave me a warning.

How dark is your front tint?

they might like to tell you to take it off right there, but they can't ACTUALLY make you do it, cause the glue can obscure your vision and lead to an accident. i have a few RC buddy's and asked them about this. they said anybody that demands it being taken off right there is just playing tough guy, and you don't have to do it

What they can do is tow your sorry a$$ to the impound yard and pull the tint there courtesy of a professional window cleaner. Additude gets you no where in a hurry, but it can definately cost ya. Funny how some people can't seem to figure that out.

A couple of trucks ago, it was bought with clear windows, so I had it tinted with the same level tint has factory.....flagged over in a Sherwood Park nothing better to do but pester people check stop, wasn't even speed ... checked registration, license, had a quad they wanted to see registration for a race quad, got pissy when I told him we dont register them as they only ride race tacks.....his version of the tint problem was if it wasn't factory on the two front cab windows it wasn't acceptable....


Was stopped by him again one month later this time I was speeding....and he got real pissed when he made me roll up the window and saw the tint....he finally calmed down when I proved they were factory windows....went to a wreckers and bought factory tinted ones for the front ...still got the speeding ticket though....

Ive been to lots and now the only place i will go is Spy Design in Okotoks. cost me $80 per window but im pretty picky and they do a pefect job.
