Thats why some of us ride with roll cages now. No more dirt bikes and quads.

I agree .. my surgeon still wouldn't however.

Real story he made a joke about driving his new Porsche because of people like me.

And lots of dif victim's in the edmonton glenrose (spinal recovery hospital) i met a kid who was caught in a jeep roll over and more than a few who were in UTV's also.

To be fair most were some kind of disorder .. like spinal strokes etc or some weird nerve degeneration or worse.

But i met my share of all types of OHV patients in my 3 months in there learning how to walk again.

I wont lie i was just pinning it when i ended up landing there myself.

Doc told me from how it happened it looked like the seat smacked me hard enough to crush 1 - break a 2nd and fracture/chip the 3rd vertebra thankfully no twisting occurred nor articulation that happens from landing somewhere.

just saying be careful with the pin it motto .. it was once my own.

Might be time for a SXS ..... Just sayin .

its just a matter of time and money.


My grizz is finally fixed and runs great now its been 3 years so i have recovered alot.

But I wont lie .,. the old back gets tired after a few hours on that quad and i cant body English as easy anymore.

Just being hunched over and using legs to lean is alot of work now but gets easier every time i do it ,which is actually why i do it.

but yea id love a new hot UTV with great suspension.

next buy i guess. . after i finish my Jeep buildup or maybe not after :p..

The quads done and fixed tho so ill ride it this year for-sure.

Yeah I know a few guys that can only keep riding because they got into a Maverick. Very good seats (add harnesses) and solid adjustable suspension make riding way easier on the body than some of the other sxs and especially quads/bikes

Well i rode in a ranger a week ago or so it wasn't any better than my own atv.
my old mans 800 Rzr was better but not alot.
Its why I've been kind of looking hard at each new UTV to see what offers best back support And comfort over woops and sudden ruts/bumps.
My grizz is actually tolerable and handles well .. essentially ride 3-6 hrs lay down 2-3 hrs lol.
But really I didn't make the post for any pity haha.
People should just watch that pin it attitude i thought i was also invincible.
Been crashing and hurting myself on ATV/snowmobiles since prob 8yo and never broke a single bone.
But then i got crushed.

Been riding nearly every weekend for 2 months

Just tightened up my exhaust today and went for a rip actually.

I ride both my Mav & a scrammy 1000 , both are fun ... I can ride the Mav all day every day .. The quad , not so much ...lol
i am old , so the SXS works best . There are days though s good rip on the quad is a blast , I must admit ....
The new SXS with great suspension though really have changed the sport , you can hardly feel the unseen bumps !
where as on s quad , it could be dangerous ... No dought .

I always use and recommend safety's harness's and a beefed up
cage ....not a guarantee , but it helps your odds !

Heh the highlighted part would have been nice a few years ago.... hit a swamp grass wash out in a ditch at speed (75+kmph)

But yea i agree the Quad is alot more exciting as a twitchy flick'y unit.

But those Rzr type units are fun for cruising too, faster cruising less tippy-ness. took the old mans out alone for a few hours last weekend .

i can totally feel the appeal in a unit like that it feels faster im not sure its actually faster but it feels like it.

You're right about being careful where and when to put the skinny pedal all the way down. In the usual area I ride I'll do a trail a few times and pretty much learn every bump and hazards before pushing things and just pinning it. On larger trails that are used more often it's easier to go faster but my Elka shocks are what really made the old commander a capable machine.

i agree even though i thought i knew the area well.
know your areas before you push that skinny down or your thumb down to the bottom.

dirt-bikers deserve what happens they can keep their bent wrists (jk).

These sxs's ride nice and you can go quick on trials.

But you can roll them.

Our 50 inch we rolled 3 different times.

Rolled out 900xp rzr once.

Maverick has not rolled yet.

Drive every sxs you can. I believe suspension is everything and the number one priority beside obviously being reliable. After owning machines with awesome suspension I am critical towards other machines. I need something that can handle well. There are only about 4 or 5 sxs out there with a good suspension. Most do not. I came from a KTM 530 with the suspension set up perfect for me. I thought I would miss it going to the sxs but I don't. In fact I used to love my quad as well. I don't like riding it now and only keep it around as a spare machine and for the wife to ride.

With all the extra water in the area this year I checked out all the trails and a couple spots were changed and had some pretty serious holes compared to last year. My son hit one a couple minutes into our first ride and got tossed into some bushes. He was ok and it ended up being kinda funny but he definitely learned a lesson about learning the trail before trying to do it at a higher speed

So true. Sure don't miss our quads.

Have had a sxs since 2009 with a quad for me to ride.

After while quad sat and we rode together.

3 rd sxs and each one suspension and handling improves. Plus power

Certainly not as capable as a maverick but the upgraded suspension and lift made a huge difference and took away the tippy feeling on the off camber stuff. I dunno if I'd get my wife back in it if we were to roll, especially with the kids! Riding by ourselves there'd be no getting it back on its wheels either cuz it's a very heavy machine

Val actually rolled the rzr twice comming out of some ruts

Maybe if it rains enough this weekend mine will get washed! Or maybe Ray will feel pity on the kitty and wash it for me lol.
