Well if you own a Nytro or have own a Nytro you are all to aware of the noisy clutch syndrome....the awesome sound of the 4stroke buried by the awful rattle from the clutch.
If your a new owner of a Viper and never owned a Nytro, you will eventually find out what the noisy clutch syndrome is all about.

Well i think i found a cure, after many many clutch updates, mod's ect. at no real results and continual noisy rattly POS. went on.
I took it further this year after pondering over it for a long time and basically LOC-TITE the PTO stub shaft with 280 bearing and shaft loctite. Noise GONE, the sled sounds like a street bike with an attitude now. I did this over a month ago and have been riding it since, sounds as good as day one still.....NO RATTLE.
We will see if it make's the entire season, but remember i run a turboed Nytro with a 174 track, she has a load on it all day long. Plus i live where everyone else drives too to ride...LOL

I know the sound and aggravation very well! Now my Nytro sits silently in the trailer as a spare while the clutch on my T3 runs very quiet....

A small bottle will do the job, a tube might not be enough. You want to lay a good coating on the spline's and don't be afraid of using lots.
The trick after putting it together is to let it sit for at least one week with no engine movement. I let mine sit for two weeks at the time, i wasn't riding yet.
The loc-tite has to set 100% or it probably will fail.

Currently i have halve a dozen rides on her with no noise, it seems better then new.

You should take the time to do this mod. you will be back on the Nytro sooner then you think, your riding basically on borrowed time.
Riding a Doo is like playing russian roulette, you never know if your turn is up....hahaha. Plus I'm all to familiar with the TRA, worst clutch in the industry, absolute POS clutch. If BRP knew anything about what their doing other then making gimmick's, they would replace that thing they call a clutch with something from this CENTURY.
I think my grandpa had the same clutch on his Skidoo TNT LOL.

Too funny!! Im not 30 anymore and the T3 keeps me riding without getting beat to crap and half the weight it is absolutely 5 x the fun factor everyday I ride. And by the way your the one that's on borrowed time and loosing thousands everyday u keep that thing!

My question is why hasn't Yamaha addressed this issue if it is an inherent problem to the 1049 Genesis clutch?

Dale, the reason Yamaha uses a stub shaft design is because the crank bearings used are a babot half shell style bearing. It will not take the side load produced by the clutching system used on snowmobiles.
the stub shaft uses 2 ball style bearings, same as a 2stroke, this allows it to be used with snowmobile type clutching.
It is not a reliability issue, failures are non existent with the design. It's just a noisy setup.

I get that.
But annoying noise would be a turn off for owners no? I would think if Yamaha knew about it they would address it. Even if the fix was something as simple as what you have done.

I would think so, but they haven't.
It doesn't appear for them to be a problem. I don't like it and i'm sure many other's don't. Plus not all of them do it from what i understand, some worst then others.
Mine was pretty bad, the first couple season's were good but it slowly creeps in to a point you think something is wrong with the clutch.

Soaked mine down with glue 3 weeks ago and just fired it up today and all I can say is OMG. Sounds like a different sled. Sat and listened to it idle, had a cigar and wished I would have poured a rum too!!!

Very nice.
I have zero noise from mine and did it at the beginning of season, still 100%........loving it again.

I never realized how loud mine was getting. I had to change my clutch and weight configuration last month and it seemed to get worse, so much it was super Annoying. Thanks for posting this to give me the push to try it! See if it makes the couple hundred km I put on per year

I figured i would give an update on this as i have ran a season with the stub shaft and crank assembly bonded together with loctite.
It has been 100% successful and for those having a noisy clutch assembly, i first highly recommend checking your PTO stub shaft as it will most likely be the one causing the noisy clutch.
If your looking into having that smooth 4stroke sound back, like when it was new......loctite the stub shaft and crank.

I suspect this will apply to all Vipers, as they use the same motors as the Nytro's.
