There was nothing wrong with Talbot when they got him from NY. There was nothing wrong with him when they made the playoffs for 16/17. The goaltending coaches haven’t changed and the lack of quality defenders hasn’t improved. Dustin Schwartz needs to go, he ruins goaltenders.

Look at Laurent Broisoit now in WPG and Edmonton gave up on him. Even look at what Dubby did when they shuffled him away.

Watch Talbot have a decent follow up season next year.

The oilers ruin players. They’ve rushed puljuarvi and still can’t figure out he needs to go down. He’s lost all confidence and now his agent has gone to Oiler brass and asked for a trade. Hitch wants out too. This team is full of entitled millennials who want it handed to them and not have to work hard. Like the gagner move. They need to trade or sign in offseason more ‘calming goats’ like Hendricks was

I actually said to my buddy the other day that this team doesn’t have real leaders and used Hendricks as my example and how they missed guys like that. People will suggest Lucic is that guy but Lucic isn’t a leader in any way.

One thing I am starting to wonder though is Puljarvi was passed by a Finnish GM and former scout. Finnish players and management have always been loyal to each other and know their own talent yet he passes on JP. I have continually wondered if he was of the belief JP just didn’t have what it took to develop into what is expected of a top 10 pick.

Also the argument of the Oilers always rushing their young talent hasn’t always been supported either.

**** I had a long post type and Tapatalk crashes.

Anyhow look at the old kids line of Gagne, Nillson and Cogliano. No problem playing big minutes but had seasoned vets to lead them. Hall, RNH and Ebs all great players during their career but had less quality vets. Now RNH is leaned on to play with sub par talent most of the time.

Anyhow the ownership has allowed the team to become broken with bad management handing out bad contracts and relying on unproven or overrated talent.

It will take a miracle to turn this team around in 3-5 years.

It's funny how no one mentioned Mcdavid.

Is he a good fit to be the captain right now? I know he is the best by far, for talent and skill, but is he a leader of men? Does he have people skills? I think he is too young.

Can he rally the crew? I know I will get $hit on this, but.... you need an older superstar to take the team under their wing.

When I see interviews of the oiler players, the interviewer mentions McDavid to them, you can almost see the eyes roll...

A leader isn't just the best player, it has to be someone who has a mental link. A mutual bond.

About a week back, there was a picture of Mcdavid, coming in before anyone else practising his shots from the point, all by himself. He shouldn't be alone there, he should be rallying team mates to join him.

There is an apparent lack of buy in by much of the team.

I didn’t agree with McD being the captain.

I think his friendship with Draisaitl is a challenge as he doesn’t know how to tell his buddy he needs to step up. People will also hate on me for suggesting Draisaitl can be a better player. He is good offensively but gives up on the play a lot and lazy line changes cost them in the defensive end.

It would be interesting to see what kind of return they could get for him.

They aren’t going to get better buy trading for guys and then putting those new guys on waivers. !
Man do they suck and keep making chit deals moving guys out for nothing in return.
Don’t see this getting any better any time soon.

I think after waiting on the season tix list for 4 years and then 4 years of actually having season tix, my brother an I are officially giving them up... Im not gonna dump more money at a team that I don't even wanna watch while they're on the road.. In the years season ticket holder survey they had the balls to ask "how much do you think is fair for the tix to go up?".... At least we had one good season of hockey to watch

It will take some serious work and sacrifice’s to turn this roster around.

They weren’t expected to be a playoff team in 16/17 yet Talbot standing on his head some games and a lot of depth scoring got them into the show. There was more of a veteran presence on that roster as well.

The next season the management figured they must have a decent enough roster and didn’t do anything except trade away scoring. Their top 9 was arguably worse than the season before.

This season after a disappointing previous season yet hardly surprising result based on the lack of changes that had been made to the roster over the last two season they were expected to do better. How? They had arguably the worst roster of the previous two seasons and were expected to do better. If I can see that as a fan what is the management seeing?

The real disappointing result is the conference is the weakest it’s been in 20 years and they still screwed it up. I laughed when the Canucks beat them and I said to the Oilers nation faithful, remember this game. Then when the Yotes who basically were missing their top four players beat them I said again, remember this game. I even joked that Chicago who had all been written off by December might pass them, and they did. When you can’t climb above the worst teams in the league there are some serious issues.

Kids like Yamamoto and Jesse Puljujarvi are not the answer, expecting Bouchard to come up and be an impact in the next two years is a worrisome thought. Lucic’s contract is a disaster. If you could get 20 goals out of a physical player who could skate you might be okay with it but he brings nothing to the game. The Defence is questionable from top to bottom. They don’t have a top NHL pairing. Klefbom maybe a top two guy someday but Larsson and Nurse are not. Sekera and Russel are bottom pairing guys and tying up 10 million a year.

A decade of darkness is turning into two decades of disaster.
