The way this team is currently playing and if the roster remains the same they won’t make the playoffs.

are you a flames fan haha? your pretty negative with Oilers roster and games played. Are you comparing them to a higher caliber team? not trying to bust your balls but come on man wheres the love... They are by no means the best team going nor will they be but if you are a true oil fan you have to admit there is hope this year and most games the team has gelled together well and have proved to be a playoff team so far. I myself have waited many years for a outcome like they have had thus far. With decent goalies and productive forwards not just one line goal scorers making something happen. Stupid penalty's and poor neutral zone play is much needed work but but but I'm impressed with how they have played so far and look forward to them making the playoffs this year....i'm being Mr Positive...GO OILERS!!

I am a realist.

As a life long Oilers fan hope can only last so long when the last 13 years have been a constant hope. Going back to even the mid 90’s of hopeless seasons through the somewhat hopeful 2000’s but I digress. Any Oilers fan understands hope because that’s all we have since the glory days.

The roster is flawed and their results are skewed by exceptional play of two players in McDavid and Draisaitl and relatively good goaltending on most of their wins. Defence has had some ups and downs, some nice stories with Bear playing some strong games but as his mins increased he hasn’t had some same success. Fortunately injuries haven’t been major but take out a guy like Nuge for 5-6 games and the depth especially at centre is evident yet “fans” still suggest he be traded for a scoring winger or top four blue liner. Lol.

Since the start of the season on their five game win streak they have lost more games than they have won. That’s a large issue. At Christmas last year they were something like 18-18. I would have to go back and look to see if there were any loser points but regardless were playing .500 hockey. With 7 games to go until the break they currently have 18 wins which isn’t bad, but still hopeful at best that they make the playoffs with 49 games to go.

They have 40 points, if they go 24-24-1, keeping on pace for .500 hockey, they would finish with 89 points. It’s going to take 94-96 points minimum to be in a wildcard spot as the division is tighter even more so than last year.

As I sit here drinking my coffee, thinking about how much hope I have had for a season of progress and results I think something like a 27-20-2 is a record they likley need to produce to be a playoff team this season. I just don’t believe this is the roster that can do it based on the results so far.

I've become so accustomed to being dissapointed that I find it difficult to be optimistic. Even when they were #1 & #2 in the west I was watching the others only 5-6-7-8 points behind and feared that thier play was unsustainable....

Now I look and see that the difference between 1st in the division and the last W/C spot is only 3 points..... hell it's only a 5 point spread between 1st in the west and the last W/C spot..... I fear we will quickly be surpassed and left on the outside looking in.

3 weeks ago a bunch of oiler fans were pointing and laughing at Calgary, a short losing streak and they were "spiraling to the basement" well who's laughing now, there they are 2 points behind...

Being an oilers fan has sucked over the past 20 years with the exception of one fluke (trade deadline loading) year....

I haven’t watched 2 exciting games like last night and Wednesday in a long time. I dislike Tkhachuk but thought he gained a lot of respect by settling things with Kassian and even going with Bear. I thought Khaira held his own pretty good against Robinson.

Was an awesome game for sure! The fight between Smith and Talbot was awesome!

I like Lucic but he was not relevant in either game, a few hits but thats it. I think since his dad committed suicide he has not really looked like he has any emotion, he looks sad, empty and uninterested. Last year i thought he still always went out and threw big hits but just no luck with points.

Decision in the next week I heard. Does Edmonton get the nod as a hub city for the playoffs?

I think Edmonton is the best fit everything considered, but Politically it will likely be Toronto if not Vancouver.

It’s going to be Toronto if they relax the 14 day waiting period in Canada. West was already given to Vegas from what I had read.

Oilers could be winning the draft lottery...... again.

NHL draft lottery is 1/2 complete. A playoff qualifying team that doesn’t make it past the play in round is getting first overall. All 8 qualifying non winning teams have an equal 12.5% chance of winning now.

Draft order
1. A playoff-play-in loser
2. LA (jumped 2 spots)
3. Ottawa (no move)
4. Detroit (dropped 3 spots)
5. Ottawa (dropped 3 spots)
6. Anaheim
7. New Jersey
8. Buffalo

One of these teams is picking first overall

Calgary
Winnipeg
Edmonton
Chicago
Vancouver
Minnesota
Nashville
Arizona
Toronto
Columbus
Pittsburgh
Montreal
New York Islanders
Florida
Carolina
And New York Rangers.

Is crazy. Play in teams got a combined 24.5 chance of winning 1st overall. Now it's a 1 in 8 chance of winning (all equal odds)

Will McDavid get to 500 career regular season points tonight? Sitting at 499 right now.
cool fact: a point tonight gets him to 500 in the exact same amount of games it took Crosby to reach the same mark.
