is there anywhere that can test beacons, to make sure they are doing what they are supposed to be doing. as in frequency, signal strength etc. may be easier to test before you find out the hard way.

Yes - with a second beacon.
Do a distance check by moving to distances away to ensure it is sending properly, also turn the beacon in different directions to check antenna strength.
Reverse the process using the other beacon to check it's ability to receive.
Then have someone else bury it in the back yard and see if you can find it.

would two of those be twins by chance. just askin.

yea thought of that also, will have to test against another beacon. just did not have that option at the time. have two, one seems to be down on transmit power.

just do a group test before ya head out next trip

Turn your beacon ON, go out in your yard and hide with your dog and I'll see if I can find you:rolleyes:

If you have access to a Pieps DSP beacon, they can check and display the frequency of the signal received from other beacons. The function is accessed by switching the Pieps DSP into "search" mode, then pressing and holding the "enter" button until "F---" is displayed on the screen. The beacon will then display the frequency relative to the standard 457kHz frequency for avalanche beacons (ie: "F010" and an arrow pointing to the right of center, indicates that the beacon is receiving a signal that is 10Hz higher [457.010kHz] than the standard). Any shop that has a demo model Pieps DSP beacon should be able to check your beacon's frequency.
