Syn. winch line ???

Out plowin snow today and I broke my regular winch cable twice. Is syn. winch line any better ??? What are the pros and cons of syn. cable vs. regular winch line ???

Pros outweigh the cons, buy it 3/16" @ 50'

Make sure you have an anti scuff cover over the first 6-8ft to prevent snags and freighing, you can usually buy the cable replacement as a kit including line, cover and new fairlead.

great stuff, easy on the hands in case you grab it without gloves..have been plowing 3 winters now with it, no sign of wear. and have winched out a few Hondas in summer too!

Where do we buy syn. winch line locally ??? Can you buy it at any bike shop ??? Or at a speciality shop or where ????

Town & Country supply in Ponoka has it or the Yamaha dealer in Red Deer has it also.

Most dealers should have the roller and rope kit.
A short strap to wrap around trees etc,help to protect rope.
If your wrap the rope around a tree and put the hook onto the rope it may get cut the rope.

I know it isn't local, but I bought mine off Ebay, 50' of line, chaff protector, new fairlead, shipped to my door for $80CDN. Wherever you get it from, it sure beats the old steel cable.

The synthetic line is the way to go for sure. It also helps to have a snow plow, roller fair lead. the lower roller is bigger so the line doesn't make such a tight corner with the weight of the plow on it. I sell them both at the shop here. I run them on my plow and my rope still looks good after 2 seasons.

Thats good because the polaris dealer here wants $105 for just the rope.

I replaced my steel cable with a synthetic rope this fall and I plowed this weekend with it. It works well . Mine is a Warn rope and it came with a 6 ft sheath that protects the rope from wear on the fairled . If you have used your exisitng fairled with a steel cable the the roller is probally wore a bit and this tends to wear the fibers on the rope ( according to the literature in the rope kit ). Also they warn you not to hook the rope onto itself ( using the factory steel hook ) - use a short tow strap. They recommend no knots - only braided loops to do any connections . It is a lot nicer to work with and it weights a fraction of what the cable does and the only thing I noticed is that it stretches more and it is too early to tel about the wear of it .
