Anyone know if I should get a 43 or 45 tooth sprocket? Also if I need a 72 or 74 link chain? Or should I just look at the old one and get the same?

should be either 20-45 or 19- 45......

if its 20-45 change it to 19 on the top....

if its 19-45 go get a 47 bottom.. [ got mine at the sled shed in revy ] ..

Your sled should have a 45 in it. Should also have the 74 link chain. A new chain is extra insurance and worth while after a few years for sure.

Check to see what your top sprocket is. If its a 21 I wouldn't go lower, but go higher on the bottom and try a 21/47 combo with that new track.

You shouldn't need to replace your sprocket unless its heavily worn.

I have a 47 here you can have. If you have the 22 or 23 in the top then I would put that 47 in. The reason I wouldn't run a 19 is its a little more harsh of an angle for the chain to turn around. Lots of people run the 19 though with zero issues. Most people change the top gear vs the bottom gear because the bottom big gears cost so much more.

Stop running into things and your bumper mounts won't get cracked.

As far as the Vforce go, I would only look at buying them if you have to replace both carb boots and reeds. The price on ebay is cheeper than replacing with stock. There is little gain in either vforce or others. Boysen does have the aluminum intake boots but you are paying over $400.

Did you ever decide on what you were going to do for clutching?

I'm tearing that apart tonight I will check that!

Heya bounce!

I will check that out tonight and let ya know. Rob told me I should replace the sprocket and chain this summer. Should I be looking at replacing the top sprocket as well? Once I count the teeth on the sprocket I will l;et ya know and gladly take that 47 off your hands! :D

I'm checking the reeds tonight as well. What am I looking for other than chipping and cracking!?

For clutching I'm just going to bring it over to your place and go through it, replace the basic parts I need, get quick clickers and set it at 4. Then first times out in the mtns see how she goes. The new gearing should help the issue I've been having. But I won't know till next season.

Sound good bud!? :D

Start with the clickers on 1 and if it will pull itself at altitude you are laughing. If you find that on 1 it has no issues with rpm at anything over 6000 feet you should be able to throw more weight at your primary and load your engine harder. is your machine a 144? If you want to try some clutch setups I would be willing to loan you my secondary to try, I think you would like how it works.

I would change your chain as its good preventative maitenance but sprockets are probably fine. Look at the teeth and make sure there not rolling over.

X2

chain replacement yes, but unless the gears are worn down, don't worry about the top gear replacement unless you are gearing it down as well.

My Sled is a 151 track. I put the camoplast track on it and the new extroverted drivers.

I'll start looking at this all tonight and take some pics.

Im running a 151 on 19/45 gears and it has worked great for me. Im also a fat beer drinking dude so if you are fairly lightweight you might like a 21/45 setup better. Did you put the 9 tooth exo's on or 8. you might need to roll your skid back 1" to clear the exos. if you look at your tunnel you will see where the holes are for the skid to mount if you are running the extrovert drivers. You just need to drill the holes.

I'm 5'4 145lbs, so not that small, lol. I have the 8 tooth drivers. To clear them I removed the front part of the sliders, grinded off the front of the rails and put in an anti stab kit. See attached. I might try running 21/47 to see how that works.

That will work, the X models came with exos so the tunnels came with both sets of holes. It would have saved you cutting your rails. I think i am going to buy an ez ryder skid for mine this summer. I have a set of 151 ice age rails for that can run the 8" rear bogies but there anodized blue. Might be looking at getting rid of them cheap. At your size I would go with the 21/45 and solid pins in your primary. My old lady is 5'10 and 160 pounds and on her 08 xp that what i have on hers and it works sweet. Same belt for 2 seasons now.

I think I'll be good with the rails I have for now. Thanks tho! My first season on the sled the dealer that sold it to me had the wrong effin belt on it, found out last summer so changed to the 383. *knock on wood* haven't blown a belt yet.

Trollcat sent me some pins to use. Once I can get it apart with takethebounce I am going to inspect it all and see if I should use the pins etc. I think maybe even just new gearing might help. Either way I will take pics of everything I pull apart and post on here. This is my rebuild thread! :D

Ok...so took off carb boots, reeds, and chain case cover last night as well as my ugly @$$ bumper.

Couple questions.

1.) The airbox, the left hand side black rubber thing came off easily, I barely had to undo tjhe metal clamp. Is this bad? Do I need to replace something there?

2.) Take a look at the pics of the reeds, to me they look fine, the one just has a small chip in it. Advise please!

3.) Chain case cover is off, I know I have to losen the chain to take it off, anything special I have to do before I take the sprocket off? Looks pretty ok to me...

New reed pedals for sure. throw some new ones in now. Stick to stock, they last longer than v-force. And you wont notice any difference. hard to tell but chain looks fine

Oh yeah, when taking the chain off, loosen the nuts holding the sprokets on first, that way you can use your brake to stop it from spinning

i've had both vee's and boys reeds ... both are the same.... the good thing about vee's is u can change the peddles quick and no screws to fall out inside... and u can buy either 1/2 of the vee's...

the boys having the alum parts is one less rubber part to leak... but i think vee's have the rubber fixed to stop it now...

ok so u have a 8 tooth drive with 21-45 right now???

with 8 tooth comes some advantage over 9 's so.... mabe 19-45 or 20 -45... 21-47 is 2.23.... 19-45 is 2.36.....

most say 2.30 - 2.40 is the best mountain gearing unless ur 400lbs
