Starting problems

Hi guys. My 2008 T-500 cat won’t start with the electric start. I thought first the flex shaft was broke but that’s not it. The starting motor turns but the gear is not goi g out into the flywheel.

charge the battery or boost it with a battery that you know is full charge. if its a low voltage it wont have enough power to throw the bendix to the ring gear

Can you pull the small gear out by hand far enough to engage the ring gear? Just to check for binding.

Does it sound bad when you engage the starter, gears grinding? Or is it just freewheeling?
