Went to Houston and Smithers, had an awesome 3 days of sledding but could not find fuel without ethanol. Saving grace was one of our group has a tidy tank he carries of premium from home. Could have cut a great week short due fuel. I guess moral of the story if in doubt pack your own fuel to ensure that you always have.

We have to do the same - Fill up in Prince George on the Way to Stewart. Last place you can find 94 octane.
Always get a laugh on the responses when I ask to pre-authorize my credit card for $800.00 of premium. The $100.00 limit at pay at the pump is a joke.

How bad is premium with ethanol for a sled motor?

it's not if the motor has an ethanol setting. Off the top of my head M-series, ProClimbs, Pro's, Etec's all detect ethanol automatically or have an easy setting to adjust for it.

With what we get gouged for fuel in BC I don't know why you wouldn't bring it with you from Alberta anyway. I certainly would if I had the chance. I buy marked premium by the barrel in BC just so I can afford to ride!

91 octane generally doesn't have ethanol. No problem in this corner of the province finding premium and good premium as well! Not old stuff like in a lot of places.

I think you are wrong here. The only premium ive found with no ethanol is Shell vpower. All other 91 premiums contain "up to 10% ethanol" it says so on most pumps. Esso, co op, petro can.

Dont think ethanol is bad on most sleds now as long as its 91, my '13 doo says so on the cap, but if the gas sits for awhile thats when it will "absorb" water if it has ethanol.

If I had your money I could burn mine.............:rollinglaugh:

If I had your money I could retire! :ha_ha:

Actually....it would help if I quite buying sleds! Bought the wife a "new" one on Sunday. Come to think of it....she's paying for this one.
OK, I'm good. :Ponder:

Being from Alta, not sure if this is normal or not. But in BC, some stations sell marked premium that can be used for the toys.
The price was cheaper or at least the same as regular gas.
Found one in Sicamous (used for my boat), and one place in Revy.
Not sure if this premium has eth or not.

Yup, it's getting more common. BC government made it legal to run marked in our toys 4 or 5 years ago.

Yes I am Darryl's brother. In Alberta costco's premium has no ethanol. I do try to support the local economy but ya I guess from now on bring my own. And yes on a new stocker ethanol may be ok but on a 290hp turbo not taking the chance on the ethanol being what increases the octane. We had absolutely awesome weather and all in all a blast.

Yup, most sleds will tolerate it now, the Cats/Doos take it direct, Polaris you can switch the fuel setting to eth/non-eth right from the heads up display, no need to pull wires. Key here is that "it may contain UP TO 10%", but doesn't in a lot of scenarios, but people are still stuck on the 10% number. Only real way to know is to test it. If you are sketchy on a fuel and not sure about the ethanol content, use a product like Startron to deal with the ethanol, then you don't have to worry about it.

Why would having Ethanol in your fuel stop you from riding? Most of if not all sleds are good for up to 10% Ethanol. Unless you have a built motor or turbo set-up that prevents you from running you should be good to go. Obviously avoid it if possible, but no reason to not run it if you have no choice.
