Sled deck on 1/2 ton?

take any truck you are thinking of buying to a weigh scale. get the weight of front and rear axles, subtract te umbers rom the numbers on the vehicle sticker. this will be the max weight you can carry. you can estimate the weight of what you carry-2-sled-2 guys-gas-sled deck-gas(truck-sleds-jerry cans) equipment-tools etc. don't forget ice n snow build upon truck and machines. estimate higher than you think. if you are not under by a couple hundred pounds you will be overweight and can be fined.
In Alberta they use tire weight ratings, BC axle ratings? i have weighed 1 tons that where very marginal! don't listen to salesman unless he is going to pay the fines. not likely. always fun listening to there BS.

And after you do all that (in BC anyway) check your GVW on your registration. Our ICBC thieves make you pay more money to insure your truck for what the manufacturer says it's actually designed to carry.

seems to be no end for government tax grabs.

does this gvw tax involve the over 10,000 lb signs on highway?

Beats me. I was so mad I told them to pound sand and cancelled my collision coverage instead of paying the extra. Trucks old, and if they're not gonna cover it anyway why have insurance? Liability and comprehensive only for me now. They actually saved me money by trying to charge me more!

Mabe that's how some guys can run half tons, cause they pay to crank the gvw up via icbc

No chit! My son's Dodge 3500 is "licensed" for way more than the door sticker says. It's just an ICBC money scam though. I've been told that if CVSE stops you they won't care. They go by the door sticker first, then check your tires.

I put E rated tires on a 1/2 ton, with a full size deck. Went to the scale house by Ardrossan, got everything approved by DOT and went on my merry way. I did put overloaders on, to compensate for the extra weight and so the truck would sit level, when loaded.
That was in the late 90's and i don't know if it can still be done?
I made many trips to Vale, with 2 sleds on my 1/2 ton and never an issue.

likely most of us have, seen trucks pulled over lots, with guys unloading sleds. I have not been pulled over, lucky likely, from the many posts lately, my luck may run out lol.

Set 1/2 ton up correct and not draw attention to yourself and go have fun.
A lot of 1/2 tons set up correct are better than a short box 1 ton with 6 inch lift and sled deck.

Exactly , and Fords new 1/2 ton with 2650 lbs payload is more than capable.

I also had a 170L titan tank to fuel this pig so I didn't have to stop every 350km @32L per 100. But with the airbags and heavy duty springs etc it doesn't even look like a half ton (minus the short box)

UGH COME ON PEOPLE THIS^^^^^^^^ is not safe air bags and HD springs don't legally increase payload of your truck it may not sag like a pig but compared to my 3500 it will drive and stop like one. Also you may be F***ED if you get in a wreck and your that overloaded because your insurance could argue that the truck was out side its max approved weight range.

Not picking on you specifically bud theres lots that do this but when you think about the amount of fuel your burning and the fact that your beating the HELL out of your truck (brakes,Ball joints, bearings, suspension, CV's etc) just buy a trailer and save the decks until you can afford to run one safely on a truck that's meant for the weight.
