This is more of a JEEP thing, but here is a Full float conversion kit for the Dana 44.
Maybe its possible to build a Snow and Mud approved half ton??

lots of newer Chevy 2500's have semi floating rear axle's. Its pretty beefy, should hual 2 sleds just fine. Full floating is a stronger design though.

Interesting thing is that the 2500hd axle is the same as a 3500hd single rear wheel axle. The only difference is the extra leafs in the pack, and the overload. GM only makes one axle for the 2500hd/3500hd single rear wheel.

They have the same frame, same brakes, same axle, same bearings, same gearing, the only difference is the spring packs and the tires and rims.

I have a 2500hd and a 3500hd axle if you put them side by side, you wouldn't be able to tell.

That's interesting. I wonder what the price difference is between the two off the lot.

Yeah they are the same axle. But the SD 2500 uses the 14 bolt semi floater. So does that make it a half ton then? Or is the HD a 1 ton is my question I guess. The Z71 half ton uses the 14 bolt semi floater too, except with 6 bolt wheels,, instead of 8.

I don't really care about people GVW's really, I just like talking about axles. Im a gear head.

3500 has bigger brakes.
No TPS sensors.
Heavier rear springs.
Everything else is the same on the SRW.
I went through all this when I bought my 2012 3500 Duramax

I think they're affectionately called a "heavy half" and a "3/4 heavy duty".

The REAL question is, what's the difference between a 1500HD and a 2500 NON HD.

I wasn't aware of the bigger brakes, maybe this was just on the 2011+ duramaxes? I know i'm talking about 2001-2007 for sure. The DRW is a different axle for sure though, you can just put on the spacers on a regular 3500hd axle and run duals on it though. Was debating on doing that with mine.

Gear ratio, the 1500hd with 8 bolt wheels had 3.73 and the 2500hd has 4.10

Nothing else different

Yes drw is bigger axle and brakes

Older and newer

The 2011 and up srw has same pads and calipers front and rear

Not bigger front and smaller rear like 2010 and older srw
