Sled deck on 1/2 ton?

So a one ton loaded up with a payload of 2950# is legal and safe but a 1/2 ton with 3000# payload is not safe nor legal ?
Don't get me wrong I understand what your saying. A bigger heavier truck will be more stable. My point is , people making blanket statements that a 1/2 ton can't do it safely are being very close minded. Do two sleds and gear weigh 3000# ? The 2016 f-150 is not your daddies 1/2 ton anymore. Christ my 1976 3/4 Chevy only had a payload of around 1500#. Things change, at least give the new trucks a chance.

spend your money, load her up, make sure you have all your gear and fuel, then run her across the scales and see where your legal axle weights are.

Ask any DOT officer, their first concern is legal axle weight, 2nd concern is max gvw. Your putting the horse ahead of the cart.

and your guilty of the blanket statement, you have not addressed length of cab, length of box, height of deck, relevance to axle weights. all you say is 2016 f150.

I did a quick search and found some interesting information, sure its out of date, for a 2013 ford, but look at the carrying capacities, especially on page 4 where they talk about carrying a camper and list the max weights based on cab length

2013 F150 4X4 super crew 1455 lbs

Quite a difference.

So if you load the truck up and run it across the scales and it is under the legal axle weight, you are good to go then,! Right!!!!

Curious to see what the rear gvwr is.... I had an 04 f350 crew cab short box diesel and with 2 on the sled deck and a 4 place open trailer loaded and 5 passengers and gear my rear gvwr was barely legal. The DOT officer at the scale said it was close, but I was legal.... Let's see your numbers when you roll over the scales :)
