Done a few like that, guaranteed a smelly mess. Like Larry says, they can't swim well in the confined spaces of the trap. I've never used an open trap like that though. Likely going to get a good shot of skunk juice....hahahaha

A skunk cant spray if it can't get its tail straight up, so being a mesh enclosed trap don't matter. Once its in the trap youj can do what you like with it. Least stink method is toss the trap in the dugout and count to 200, pull it out and clean trap however you like...We used to count to 100 and toss the trap back into the back of the truck and go from there, but, one time counting to 100 apparently wasn't enough, now we just count to 200 to be safe!

I don't cotton to that statement. Back in the flatland, I have heard and seen people catch skunks (younger ones naturally) and if one was quick enough to get in before they sprayed and then lift them by the tail they couldn't spray. Once their back feet were off the ground they were unable to spray.

I'm pretty sure a skunk can and will spray in one of the those traps but that is just MHO

not willing to take the chance if he is right or wrong, may be like the now need to count to 200 senario. at that close range the stunk is not going to miss.

Personally I couldn't drown a skunk, we have always used a .22, and cat traps work well because they can't get their tail up to spray.
