I never unhook my DESS and never had an issue. They can be very finicky.

yup exactly. i dont think they can handle the on off all the time. i just use my kill switch all the time. for that reason i had 2 keys made this season just because i cant be in the backcountry with a check key code lol. think it was only 75$

So for the guys that have most of the issues, just wondering if you wear the tether? And do you fall off often?

This is my 5th doo since 1998. I have always used the DESS tether. I fall off lots, that's one of the ways to learn how to push yourself to the limit. I have never had a problem with one until this sled.
Geez, this sled has 660 km on it.

That sounds like a good deal😁

I have a second key as well that I keep inside my avy pack so I know I'll always have it with me. I also have my wife's sled programmed for mine and vice versa.

If you ride with the same crew all the time it's not a bad idea to swing by your dealer and do the same with their sleds. A good dealer probably won't charge a pile for this service as long as you treat them well

The keys are around 40-50 buckaroos. Check your bill of sale. If you didn't get charged take this secret to your grave. They may have forgot to charge you. Lol.

I got 2 keys, but it cost me $30. My DESS key gets cycled a lot, lol, and I have had no issues.

I don't unhook mine either. When I get off the sled at a stop, I will undo a carbiner and the DESS will stay on the machine. Mostly, it gets pulled off in the trees. I also use two tether cords tied together. I found the stock one was a real pain in the rear. With two tied together there was a lot more leeway and that was much more forgiving.

So for the guys that have most of the issues, just wondering if you wear the tether? And do you fall off often?

I wear mine faithfully and some days it is a pita. My wife and I have 4 keys programmed the same.

I took a couple of pics of my DESS post and the key I am running vs one of the 2 spares I have. The one that came with the sled is the one on the top, and the one I am going to get the sled programmed to is on the left. The older one has that "bump on it, which I think makes a difference.

HOWEVER,

Notice the little straight part on the DESS post tip. I looked at a couple of SP's and they didn't have this. It's hard to see.

Perhaps it's one of those things they just stopped making for the "X" photo 2-3.JPG photo 1-3.JPG because they are chitty, and my sled got missed.
