Sidewinder Fuel Return Restriction?

Heard a rumour that there is a restriction in the fuel return line to the tank.......

Guy was telling me that if you remove the restriction the sled would get better fuel mileage........

Anyone know anything about this?

Putting a restriction on the return lines sounds like a pre set way to get a desired fuel pressure. The restriction in the line would keep pressure on the feed side.

Out of curiosity, if you can, check fuel pressure at the injectors pre and post restriction removal.

Exactly. Removing the restriction will only lower your injection pressure and increase loss of performance. Ya can't get something for nothing.

I have not heard anything about that but thanks for the insight skegpro, i will look into it and see if it's true or just a BS rumor.

Isn't there a regulator?

I think this is an orfice downstream of the regulator.

A fixed area restriction would only increase pressure during a low flow situation.

Did some googling this am.

So it sounds like on the 17's the red elbow that goes back into the tank had to small of an inside diameter and at idle it would restrict flow increase pressure above the max regulator set pressure.

18 has the the updated elbow.

If there is a regulator, and the restriction is on the return between the tank and the regulator, then there is no need for the restriction.

I would still measure fuel pressure before and after so you can see if there is any change. A good troubleshooting incase you do notice any adverse effects.

Ok thanks will check in to it, maybe Yamaha has a tech bulletin on it.

Well i looked in to it and it only effects certain serial number's and is not an issue with all 2017 units. My Winder was not effected by this.
Not 100% but i suspect it might had been the first early build and the issue was corrected on the later build's.
The best thing to do is contact your Yamaha dealer with your serial number and they can check if your unit is effected and needs the update. It is not a recall, they will not contact you.

If some one has different information then what i brought, please let us know and i will look further in to it. THX.

Yep and some 18’s did aswell I believe I’ve changed 1 out for a friend. Simple fix quick n easy.

Anyone have a part number for the updated elbow? I just looked at mine and it has the red elbow.
