Shoulder Surgery

So when I broke my wrist on March 11, I also extended my left arm back and ended up with a full thickness tear of my supraspinatus tendon. My wrist is healing fine but not my shoulder and I am booked in for orthoscopic surgery on July 8, Yep 4 days before the snowandmud jamboree so I will be totally gimped there,lol, but I will there. This is a Wcb claim so things are going quite fast and I am quite impressed at that. I'm seeing Dr.Bury at the Leduc hospital.

What are others experiences with this surgery.

Ha ha, Lisa will be driving it. Im not sure if I can even go anywhere that weekend as I't may hurt a bit and not great for me if I do.

Had mine done in Vancouver. They even sent me home with a DVD of the surgery. Sling for a week(don't cheat, it's not worth it!!), lots of physio. If they take out the bursa sac the shoulder will be a bit looser, but less pinching.

The down side. No sledding/sports for at least 12 months. You have to wait for the bone to grow over the ligament repair or you risk pulling it from the anchor and starting over.

Not sure you'll be ready for the Jamboree.

we've been telling him the same thing, telling him not to push it and that his health is more important..... although I am interested to see what the effects of oxycottons and beer will be on him....... Video anyone?

Next time I talk to Ron I'll suggest he throw some 32" silverbacks on the Razor.....just so as we don't all get the wrong idea..
And to be fair I'll let him use my telescope in return, it is computer guided with a remote so you only need one hand to operate it.

I know a couple people who had this done. Typical recover is 1 year as noted. 1 bud was a professional weight lifter, his recover took over a year but is back to strength in 2. Other budy had it done was just a regular guy, he has 75% strength compared to the right and some sort of chronic should pain. If you have a tear it really depends how bad and where it is located. There are no guarantees with surgery and you may be the same when your done or worse or better. Most peoples recover very dependent. Hopefully you regain 100% strength. Left is usually bad for a sledder as this is our power side for controlling the body and sled, so it is strained a lot compared to the right. Should be noted that people can tear supraspinatus tendon just from a dog jolting hard on a leash.

myself, mine is chronically inflamed from a couple whip outs while jumping. Needless to say I pick and choose my jumps based on snow conditions now . Going over the bars, she's gonna take a sixer to lesson some of the pain that night!

Sleeping is hard, couldn't get comfortable for a couple of months. If it's the same surgery I had, they drill an anchor into bone, then cut a groove in the bone above the anchor for the ligament to lay in. The bone takes anywhere from 8-18 months to grow over the ligament and securely anchor it.

Had my surgery in Feb., so I missed two full seasons of riding!

Had my shoulder surgery Dec 5th. 4 anchors. I'm now just able to sleep on that shoulder for a few hours a night. I had to wear a de-mobilizing sling for 12 weeks. It's a long road my friend but worth it. Good luck with the recovery.
