right. then the shop rate would just go up so they can hire someone to watch how much wd40 and brake cleaner 20 different mechanics are using.

Thats true but a person expects to be overcharged by big shops anyways lol.

Just sayin, if you're gonna charge a fee at least tell the costomer what its for even if you don't tell them how much you used

shop supplies is a percent of labour usually and is capped off usually at a certain amount,i have been in shops my whole career and in shops the shop supply bill generally is higher at the end of the month then what was collected, your bill was the shop supply based on labour or parts?you make it sound like they over charged you for the job was simple but if you look at your invoice it should tell you how the shop supplies is caculated, most shops computer invoice automatically caculates the shop supplies

I'm getting sick of it, jiffy lube for example will try to kick you over the fence with all sorts of bs... Like the infamous engine health test, lol.

my wife got her half ton oil changed I look at the bill 130 bucks, pricks gave her a 17 dollar air filter for 37, they stripped her oil plug and had the balls to charge her 4.5 for the one they wrecked, 6.5 in shop supplies, 3.5 in enviro charge. Pathetic.

The fan belt broke on my dad's f 250 and they charged $40 for shop supplies and $3 enviro charge on top of the $600 labour. I guess he deserves it for buying a ford though:tearhairout:

I like it when they ask if you want an engine flush cause your oil was dirty. No just change the fing oil and it will be clean again!

I tried that once. What a joke. They throw in some addative that's 5$ at Canadian tire. But charge you 40. They put it in the dirty oil and run it for 5 mins at idle

I charge extra for every dirty rotten job I do in my shop5% or an extra hour. I use the best in supplies and it's far from cheap. For example a cracked oil pan in a d8 dozer that's been leaking for a few days. By the time I'm done I will have used 50 bucks worth of various stuff, plus coveralls plus plus plus. And when the bill is an argument I add 20% and don't return your next 5 phone calls, fix it yourself.

You should stop by Superlube sometime, they charge $100 for a "diesel purge" which is just a $15 bottle of additive. Send the wrong guy for an oil change in a company truck and it can easily cost over $400.

A shop supply charge is fine with me, as long as it's justified.

When I price a job, the price is the price.

I thinks its just better if the price is given up front, I'd rather be told shop rate is $135/hr than told $100/hr and have another 30% tacked on in "shop supplies". When I go out on a job the company bills the picker truck at a straight rate, we don't also charged for fuel burned.
