Shop supplies is just another revenue stream. Just like environmental charges on rental vehicles. The supplies are part of the 110 an hour you pay the shop. They are all just greedy.

When I doo invoices, I use "tool useage/replacement" and that includes drill bits, driver bits, saw blades, cords, dropped and broken tools, worn out batteries and replacement of worn out tools, compressor hoses/fittings, etc.. and I calculate that at 5% of the material cost on every invoice.

Shop supplies can be a lot of things from brooms, light bulbs, hand cleaner, towels, gloves, heat, electricity, coffee, cream, sugar, tape, small nuts/bolts/washers, zip ties, wear and tear and replacement on shop tools, air compressor operation, etc.. Turples has a big building to operate. Doo they have a union shop? May cost more to run a union shop and they have to recoup cost somehow.......

Suck it up princess and bend over and pay....:d

Yes i charge for lath n paint used, none used nothing charged, No blanket 10 - 15 percent charged, if used or not! U

Depends. Only if there are excessive circumstances such as worn or damaged tooling, rock drilling, extra mud, frac out containment consumables, extra water, poor access, rentals...
Sometimes we supply fresh water, job we are at today the inspector gets the bill and his guy fills us and the hydrocac truck(sweet deal).
Just about done pulling 140m of 8" poly and done for the day... (Also sweet deal!)

Ours is a percent of hourly rate. I guess I your not that busy you can keep track of every lathe paint and nail but it's way too time consuming. Some jobs we lose some jobs we win as far as consumables go

Goes on daily time ticket, No you can't account for every nail or single lath, bundle opened= bundle billed, for us. guess depends on what your doing,

Well i guess ya can argue about it, they may drop it? Not likely though.
If you argue about it and they do drop it then it just gets added onto the next poor sap that comes in.
Eventually they will collect from someone.

If you are in business your SHOP RATE should include all things you need to run your SHOP. Some shyster come up with "shop supplies" as a screw your customers nicely tag line and it has stuck. No hard feelings it is just business.
