i wouldn't be calling drivers in alberta any worse than those in ontario, i've drivin the 401. please tell us there are no accidents there because they all know how to drive. best not to be throwing stones in a glass house. also not sure what friggin roads you drive in ontario but i think you need to go on the pothole patrol back in your old fair province. seems memories are so short that you forget what you have drivin on. i lived there too.
This country has it's fair share of bad drivers. Ottawa could be the worst, because of a nice combo of Quebec drivers and those guys with the diplomat plates that just couldn't care. As far as bad roads go in Ontario, Sudbury is some of the worst roads, and they really rival bad roads in Alberta.

Roads are fine. It is all the Ontario drivers that came here with their little cars that cant deal with it or actual winter driving. I work with a bunch of them. Fawking amazes me every day.

The province pays not 1 red cent to anywhere else in the country. Transfer payments come out of federal income taxes which are the same throughout the country. Not having transfer payments would make 0 difference to the money that the Provincial Government has. What would make a huge difference however would be to get rid of the flat tax, which no other civilized jurisdiction in the western world uses.
While the province does not pay directly to another province,we do pay more than our share in transfer payments as a province.A lot of this money doled out is in the form of infrastucture money..........
So if some one else is paying for new highways to be built in a province ,it would have a direct bearing on the cost off mainteance and cash left over to service such.......
Granted we all pay the SAME amount in tax rates ,but the question is is that money then distributed evenly ??????
Simply put we all pay taxs federaly, it`s how fairly they dispense that money that counts......And it is a fact Federal money goes into provincal infrastructure..........Sorry that is a fact.
If some one pays my mortgage,i can afford fix up my Rec Room.............

Ontario drivers are the one's stranded in the parking lot at -30 because their car won't start. Even though you told them you better get a block heater installed or your car won't start. Nobody listens and it is the same result every time!

Ohh we don`t mind hiring people from out of province, it`s just that when they tell us we don`t do things as good as where they come from it begs the question : Why are you here then.........??

Came here back in 2006 because I was from a small town west of Ottawa and there was no jobs or no opportunities there.. I wanted to see more of Canada so came to edmonton with fiancé because his brother lived here and we had a place to stay when we first arrived.. I love being close to the mountains and I love the quadding here.. I don't drive a small little car I drive either a SUV or my truck, and I vent about the roads because they are horrible with pot holes and they don't plow the roads here, and when they do its like they forgot to tell the graders to finish the rest. I'm not saying the ppl here are bad but millions on a new arena and bunch of balls on the whitemud when the roads need work kinda makes me wonder..

About the potholes in our roads. You know that we have very heavy frost/thaw cycles in the spring. Down east does not get the extreme cold that we do. These extreme temperatures damage our roads. Don't get me wrong I hate the potholes as much as anyone and yes they should be fixed, but it is hard to keep up to them when we have winter here for 7 months out of the year.
Frost heaves another story.

True but no excuse. Larger budget required

The province spends plenty on infrastructure in an attempt to better and or keep up with the damage as mentioned caused by our weather. What they need to be more vigilant with however is ensuring construction contractors are actually doing their job. Times for completion do nothing but get longer and the quality of workmanship does nothing but get lower.

You can throw all the money you want at the problem........ just gets more hard hat fillers out there to eat the excess budget lining someones pocket. Manpower rarely ever solves much of anything because it just drives your productivity factor into the toilet.

Can a few people and roll a few heads, amazing what it can do.

Also, they seem to be using more salt/calcium instead of plowing. Back in the day when they actually plowed and used real sand and not gravel, I don't think the problem was a predominant. Now we get the chemicals melting the snow cover and running into the cracks and freezing more frequently only to spread the cracks causing more pot holes . Plus the traffic has increased ten fold, which makes the problems show up that much faster. My .02 :)
