can anyone with experience with these kits shed more light on this topic. especially with the tuning. a lot of us don't have the luxury of heading up the hill for the afternoon for some tuning pulls. we have to drive for 9 hours to get to the hill and when we are there we want the unit to run flawlessly. not spend half a day playing with a box (and not the fun kind)
first off. if you plan on deviating from stock form what so ever there is going to be a little playing involved to get the numbers you like. no one from any performance mod company is going to meet you on the hill every time you ride and tie your shoes for you. if you are scared of a little wrenching now and then or have no knowledge of how stuff works then leave it alone. RUN STOCK!

Also, i spent $400 on belts and a new helix to get it clutched rigtht. How do you not know what angles are on your helix?? I asked for help and you told me my crank run out was bad and that my power valves were dirty. Come on....

And there have been a few guys out here that have asked for fuel settings with your kits.

Just type up a nice, easy to read and understand fuel setting chart for your customers. Why all the secrets.....

I can't quite figure where you guys are having problems. myself and some others ran kelsey's 13.5:1 drop in kits last year on our 11's & 12's and only had to weight up because of ticking the rev limiter. other than that we never touched them at all. 8350 all day, 0 det probs, 91 pump. I beat mine for 1200 miles in all conditions @ 5-8000' and tore it down this june. everything still looks fine. my 12 was a turd prior to the drop in and it finally woke up. as far as support goes, I have never pestered the livin' **** out of someone as much as Kelsey and he always answered my calls, returned my e-mails, texted my wife while I'm at work to give her a status update on my 858 I had built. it's a good thing you guys don't race 1/4 mile in a nasty hod rod or you would all be in big trouble, lol! talk about having to tune. Christ give me a fuggin' break.

We are not talking about your big bore kits!!!

Anyways, if you actually read my post..... I said "if " it didnt make power i would put in another kit. Before you get to defensive let me run it with the proper clutching and if it "does" make good power i will post it on here. However, my experience with the inconsistant information hasnt given your kit a good start... so, just relax... and we will see how it runs next weekend!!!!

I rarely chime in on threads like this, however feel there is a bit more to talk about here. First of all anyone who knows me knows I am a fan of power, period, it matter less who or how it comes as long as there is a ridiculous amount of it. That said, the Carl's build turned out great, the motor pulls with authority right off the bottom and got along well with the GTX 2860 at 11k'. It does however fall a tic short on the big end, which is consistent with what find on the natural aspirated units as well. Its a nice motor, and if it were a 1/3 the cost it would be a home run. The trouble starts and ends with the numbers, at more than double the cost of the RKTek 858 one would expect more, bottom line even the RKTek drop in will out leg the Carl's 900 and its less than $800. Generally budget is an important consideration to most riders considering any level of build, if one were to equate horsepower per dollar the choice is pretty clear... As Austin mention the RKTek 858 turbo with a GTX 2863 at a half pound less boost was MUCH faster than the 900 with only a minor sacrifice in bottom end punch due to the application of the larger turbo. For those wondering, the RKTek motor did not like the 2860 at all, it flows way too much air, we will be testing even larger turbos soon to explore the ceiling on this package. More on that later...Hope this helps to clear things up on this matter.
I am not talking about the big bore either... talking about the drop in kit..

I thought I seen a outrageous dyno sheet a few months ago? Maybe it was for something else.

Didn't think playing with a boondocker box was so complicated. Instructions are pretty basic. I even did 90% of the install of my drop in kit myself. Will gladly share my tuning secrets with anyone interested.

hahaha you bugger!
I thought a little derailment in this thread would be good :D

P.S. Every PM I sent Kelsey, he replied when he could. Even when I asked him a couple of questions as a Iguana owner and not a Moderator.

I installed a 13.5:1 RK Tek drop in kit in my 12 800 Pro this fall and have gotten out for one ride so far. I also installed a full AAEN exhaust and a Boondocker Box for fuel adjustment with a previously installed fire n ice intake. My AFR gauge has not arrived yet so my tuning was all guessing on the rich side. I ran the box in the 5 rpm mode instead of the 13 mode for easier tuning to start with. Current rich settings 0% in the 2500rpm range, 5500rpm and 6750rpm Lo=4% Md=6% Hi=6%, 7500rpm Lo=3% Md=4% HI=4%, 8500rpm Lo=3% Md=3% Hi=3%. These settings were fairly rich in the high rpms, there was a bog on wide open high rpms. Running at about 6000'.

THIS KIT DELIVERED. I can't say what gains were from the exhaust or the drop in as they were installed at the same time but wow. I was running 13.6:1 PAR head and HPS can last year pulling 64g belly busters to about 8000-8100 rpm with under 1000 miles on motor. This year with the RK drop in and pipe I installed my 66g belly busters and was seeing 8200-8300 rpms when it would pull through the rich bog. No other changes to clutching.

The other guy I was riding with was on a 2013 163 XM. We had ridden together last year too swapping back and forth between sleds. We both agreed that the Pro seems to be making a bit more top end power and pulls considerably harder through the mid range than the XM now. That was not the case last year as you could notice a definite lack in the Pro's power in comparisons before.

Seat of the pants is a crappy dyno but I feel this sled has easily gained 15+ HP with the RK Tek drop in and AAEN exhaust.

The AAEN exhaust seems to work well but as others have stated before the welds are crap (I think they're brazed instaed of tig welded). I had to patch a porosity hole in their welds I found when leak checking it before ceramic coating.

I'll get some better Boondocker Box settings and air fuel ratio readings from this setup after Christmas (riding Dec 28-30th). I need more time to tune and check some track speeds out in different conditions. I'll make a post then including my fuel settings clutching.
