Hey Guys,

I am thinking about upgrading from my 02 Summit to either a rev or an xp. I am budgeting about $5500 for the new machine. I know its not much, but living in a ski town, you just don't make good cash. I have seen some good deals on both 05 and 06 rev and a few xp's especially down in seattle

Can anyone tell me the ride difference between the two? Is a xp noticeably better in ride quality? or generally speaking will a 06 rev get all the places that an xp will?

thanks for you input

I've had both.... I had my 04 renegade 800 X and my 08 summit 154 in the same year. The rev fits smaller people good as your legs will be bent a bit more. The XP allows your legs more room to stretch out or go forward. Therefore the XP fits bigger people better. I'm 6'2 and although I still like the rev chassis, the XP fits me better. But, in saying that, I would still purchase a rev if a good one came along. My new 2010 renegade XP 800 X rides good but my old 04 renegade X with the piggy back shocks was the best ever....If I was buying another rev, I would get either a renegade X or a summit 144. Expect to doo some engine work on either in the near future so getting it at a good price will be something to work on....

cheers

xp handles noticably better but a rev and an xp with the same track and same riders will go the same places. The 154 xp is nice as they went to a 16" wide track which puts down almost as much footprint as a 162x15. Most of the revs I see for sale are only a 151 or less.

I also upgraded a couple of years ago from an 02 summit 800 151 to an 05 summit rev 151 and i love that sled. the XP's are great machines but in my opinion its tough to beat a well set up Rev and yes a REV will go pretty much anywhere an XP will go with the exception of high marking.

i ride a rev, and most of my buddies ride xp's. we all go the same places, and we have found the rev to be a easier to handle sled. the one guy we ride with just switched from a poo to a xp and he said the rev felt more comfortable initially, but the xp became more comfortable as he got used to it.
i say take a sit on both of them, if not a ride, and make your decision then. both great sleds!

I could never get comfortable on a rev. my knees were always hitting the panels, just seemed like my feet always wanted to be farther ahead than they could go. but after buying the XP I did notice the rev was easier to carve and sidehill with, the XP takes what I lovingly call "committment" to make it carve like the rev. I felt at home immediately on the XP, the ergonomics of the sled are second to none IMO. also revs bend easier than the XP, and are more expensive to fix.

I have an 07 151 and 10xp 154 and I am still working on the new one to make it out climb the 07. They are different and it's hard for me to say the xp is much better. A well clutched 07 will easily go where an xp will. So will an 06 but they do have a little less hp than the 07 and newer motor. The 07's got a bad rap as they did have some issues, however the one I got was a year old x rental that had 5k on it and motor was pooched, dealer put a new motor in when I bought it, I pissed around with clutching until I got tired of trying to make secondary work and put a team on it and can't say it's ever been outclimbed by an xp, and I ride with lots of them. It now has about 4500k on the motor and my 16yr old son rides it. fwiw

Thats great feedback, thanks guys. From the sounds of it, for what i use my sled for (snowboard based access) i think that a rev with a bit of clutch work and mabey a new stinger with even a bit of intake mods will match an xp for less money.

I am not a huge man, i bearly weigh in at 160 pounds, so i think that with most of your reports that the rev is a bit easier to throw around, really locks in my decision to get a rev and not an xp.

thankyou so much

I have an 07 as well and LOVE it. Make sure all the updates are done and it is a great machine. I like the xp as well, however for the 7000 to upgrade to a new on it does'nt make sense to me. You can do a search on either machine and find out the good and the bad of each. I would say look for the cleanist one you can find, check the vin at a dealer to ensure all updates are taken care of and giver and have some fun.

I have been riding a rev since 2006. I recently had to rent a sled on the last trip I went on so I went with an XP. I didn't really notice that much of a power difference (maybe the XP just seemed like the same power due to the suitcase still being installed on it and the sound messes with your head type of thing). It was a 2010 (non etec version). The track was a bit longer than mine as well. It seemed to carve just as good as mine.

The big things that I think are different is how the sled handles the bumps. Don't get me wrong my rev is great on the bumps, but the XP seems even better.

The two things I didn't like are
1. I think the handlebars are wider on the rev than the XP. Not a huge issue, but it is something I would change if I bought one.
2. The plastic where you knees rest. I didn't hit my knees hard but while sitting on it and going down the trail it seemed that if I relaxed my knees would go against the plastic just like when I ride my rev. The only difference is that with the rev it is a nice smooth curve to the plastic and on the XP there is somewhat of a pointy part to wear my knees would go. I am 6'3" tall so maybe not everyone has this problem, but I didn't like the possibility of hitting that very hard. Knee pads would be a requirement.

I jumped on my rev the other day and it is wicked fun to ride. Probably just due to the fact I am comfortable on the sled but I just don't know if I want to upgrade to an XP now.

I have a 06 REV and i Love the thing. carving is awesome and i always was so happy with the feel of the REV. Im a shorter guy at 5'7 and i never hit my knees or anything. i ride with a guy on a XP and i have tryed his sled. all i can say is night and day between the two. i didnt notice a power difference bit i did notice a major difference on your stance. on the rev you feel the sled infront of you. on the xp the dam thing is all behind you and it takes alot to get used too, but it can easily be done due to the fact that i liked the tippy stance of the xp but still liked my rev better, but that comes with being used to what i have.

all in all with 5500 bucks get a rev thats good shape and not a xp thats bagged to hell for that price. all comes down to money in the end

Can't go wrong with the rev chassis I've been ridin one for the last 5 years very easy sled to carve side hill etc. I would try to stay clear of the 07 800 r engine as it had alot of issues and the 03 800 it had alot of issues such as the carb boots delaminating and the pto seal on the crank does'nt have a retainer on it it tends to get pushed out and rings on the pistons had a flaking issue. 2004 and newer 800 engines had a pto retainer installed on it from the factory. As for me I'll be switching to the xp chassis time to upgrade. My younger boys will have the rev passed down to them.

Thanks Guys, I don't think i can justify spending the extra money to get an xp when alot of you have given the rev a stirling review. I am currently looking at a 2006 rev 151, with 2400 miles on sled, motor has new dual ring pistons in the last 400 miles(never burned down), New primary clutch and Vforce reeds at the end of last season. Motor has SLP kit on it with head, pipe, can, porting, and clutching (It also has all the stock parts to go with it)
151 Track, 2 inch lugs with no missing lugs and Hyfaxes with 1 ride on them.

10 inch risers, Skinz soft hand guards, SLP flowrite in dash, Simmons skis with extra carbides,Spare belt, Muff pot, Ice scratchers.

it looks a little beat up but for $3900.00 i think its a pretty good deal. Only thing is that its in washington and i am in whistler, and still have to investigate bringing in a modded sled and the legalities of crossing the boarder with it.

I'm 5' 9", 160lbs. I have a 04 Summit 600HO all redone, and an 09 XP 800 Summit. I really like the 600 because is't got a nice ride and a peppy motor. The XP is more responsive, lighter, and can turn on a dime, plus the power of the 800 is nice.
The 600 with a Boss seat sits just the right height, I have a can for it but don't use it here...too loud for acreage and neighbours, but still sounds good.
Snow packs the headlights of the Rev but not the XP. Both start easy, but had to make a few adjustments to stop the rev from the "high idle syndrome". My opinion is the XP is superior in most things but I really like the Rev and would be happy with just it. My last Skidoo was a 01 Summit 700.

didnt have time to read all the comments but here is my thoughts and i beleive they are similar to teeroys.

the sidepannel on the xp where your knees go is straight down vertical

on the rev it is on an angle.

on the xp this allows you go move your feet at least 6-8" further ahead than on the rev.

that allows you to put your ENTIRE body weight further over the front and sides aswell as get your upper body weight over the bars for important maneuvers. this is the pivot point so you need to get your weight over it.

i have a 04 rev chassis.... i spent the money on a 07 800r set up cause i hate the xp ... had to rent one for 2 days and it sucked [ it would go straight up but nothin else ] ... allways fell like it wanted to stay flat...

well in mind if ur trail ridin it would be awsome but for a mountian sled it sucked....

if i had to buy a new one i'd buy a chitty kitty m8.... thats hard to say cause im a doo guy....

long live the rev..... xp's are like ridin a buffalo........
