Good idea Imdoo'n, I like the idea of fur coat, but fear who's wearing it, Ha.

Cozy warm in Cabin on wheels under moon lit night with millions of stars, camping at its best.

My brain storming took me back in time, it was Dec 7th 1992 when I made my first pick-up truck sleeping system. Kinda of a crude set-up as I recall, small regular cab, winter cover-alls, hard-hat for pillow, and could see my breath in the morning with ice on the in-side windows,,, LOL.

I was working for a oil patch rig moving company, long long hours on the service side,,, wasn't worth going home too sleep for 2 too 4 hours, so pick-up life style was under-way.

I ran bed truck, no sleeper unit on them as the cab would be full of winter gear in a cab mounted on a 340" bed truck,,, that was a big bed truck on the oil patch services side.
Instead of being crunched up for a snooze I found it easier to stretch out in a pick-up truck,,, the next following year was big thick foam time, a real place to sleep,,, I'd part pick-up in shop at night if there was room, other times out side... Seemed like it was always winter time, Ha cold with ice on the window.

One day a co-worker came to the shop with a small red suit case in hand, I meet him at the work bench as he one handed the suit case in front of me,,, "WOW",,, a 1000 Watt gen-set. Light and nimble, frugal on gas, can add power where ever you are. "this was 2005 if I recall."

I bought one the next day and it's still running too day.
The next year I camped in the mountains of BC for 197 days, the next year I did 205 threw out most of BC sledding the mountains,,, that gen-set give me 14 awesome years of snowmobiling, "2010/11 looking back.

16 years of running time 1/3 too 1/2 the year,,, that's alot of hours for a 1000 Watt genny, but she keeps on running.

It's soon for replacing in the next 10 or 15 years, still powers up heater for 7 hours on 1.7 L of fuel.

Lots of oil changes in its life time,,, these are the best investments for human kind.

Good pick-up truck, quality sleeping bag and 8"s of foam, 1000 Watt gen-set, a place to go, lots of water, gas, food, coffee,,, and a toy in the box too support the dream.

Light frugal rig that can cover ground fast.

Oh yha, doesn't get any better than this.

Darn near the 25 year mark of awesome pick-up truck camping, hope the next 25 is more fun yet.

Pretty much have too before I get older, Ha.

Onda is my new D-4 cat as it climbs like crazy,,, "snow, terrain and weather allows it too rock.

Did a longing road with steep grade all the way up, just under the 7000' mark, bright sunny day up there with light breeze.

Had too dip back into lower valley for bon-fire time.

Onda is slow, but this is good as it gives me time to plot the directions of tracks.

Best investment too date for adventures unlimited.

Bring on the snow and kold weather as its a good in my world.

Just got back to cabin on wheels, -10c with warm Chinook rolling in, .

Did a full on hills run along the Eastern Slopes with out a hitch, little Onda will climb a tree like nothing in this snow, small track drivers prevent me from using brakes on Onda, no biggy as there frozen solid, Ha,,, damed farm quads.

Covered 72kms by speedo that works out to 35 k with tracks,,, pretty much 1/2 the speed of tires.

Lots of 1st & 2nd threw the day, rewind to support unit was 5th gear pin-it, Ha,,, oil field tank truck disappeared on the long hill. Onda's pretty fast in track mode.

Extra in-side puck board pannels on next outing too stop snow from getting into under plastic pannels,,, she a big ice-cube under pannels.

Tonight it idles all night long since it needs winter time Oil
Block heater that can plug into gen-set for morning starts. 800 watter for 20 minutes will do the job.

Good thing unit doesn't have power steering as it would of snapped a steering rod in the frozen creek crossing, once the handle-bars jolted off track I locked it up. Backed up for different approach. Thinking at all times.

Side hill stability is awesome, thought that the 8" lift kit would be top heavy, but the track spacers allow it to lean much further then with tires,,, win win on that idea.

Lots to learn in the on going thrill of Out Doors America.

Run over everything, pin-it, Ha. "Not."

I could of kinda got away with tires &chains today, but not in the top section of the mountain I was on, wind blown, drifted, and hard as frozen chezz, ain't no way tires would of got me up there.

Pro's and Con's to either or, but tracks have benefits on days like this.

Cold is slow, wind screen and handle bar warmers with handle bar glove covers are a +++. LOL.

Looks like donkeys ears got a bit of frost bite, but hill be ok once his eye ball thaw out, Ha.

Kow faired well as see stayed tucked in behind the wind screen looking for free food,,, dammed Kows are alway hungry.

Ball-peen hammer and screw-driver is Lem Lamb's tool of choosing with tracks and kold Winntummer, Ha.

I was going to make hockey puck snow detector side pannels for under side of Onda, but in the meantime I found new easy way too get-rid off ice build-up.

Onda cover un buckles in 30 seconds, lift off and wack skid plate with hammer.
Takes 1 too 2 minutes too de-ice

Easy to get at after returning to cabin on wheels, what a time saver idea.

Today I'm in the nasty rollys, so 2X's exta gear,,, chain saw is at the ready as Donkey and Kow are on the watch.

-22c of nice weather supporting a lite breeze,,, all trees today as it blocks the winds and close to fire wood that needs to return to carbon,,, hope the tax funds aren't too high as I plan on burning at least a ton or 2, LOL.

Good times ahead finding new trails un used across frozen lands.

Pal Lem reporting from white frozen planet in the Northern half.

PS: Side pannels will stay loose till spring time for easy access.

yes the ice does build up under the hidden parts alright. a tarp over the onda may help, let onda warm up under tarp, may help melt onda cicles. or wwe just run truck exhaust under tarp, helped warm ranger and some ice cicles.

looks like there may be a few riding out west between Christmas and New years (dec 27-28-29) on atv/SxS. anyone wanting to go out for a day ride, pm me, creek crossings may be interesting! it's all part of the adventure, dress warm, not a lot of snow out there as of yet, should be a good ride.
