My 81 year old dad snuck into his home in Polo Park because he wanted to get his little generator running so he could pump the sewer back up out of his basement. Not flood water because his place was bone dry except for sewer back up and run his deep freezer to save his food. He stood in his house and watched 14 soldiers and 8 RCMP members going door to door and ramming the locked doors open and going inside. I wondered at the time he told me about this why they needed to ram all those doors open and go in. Didn't make sense. Now we find out they were searching for guns. Really? What is this society coming to? Anyway he went to his door before they could ram it down. They told him he had to leave. He said there are two retired RCMP down the street who have not left so he is not leaving either. He left his house later that day because he ran out of gas for the gen and realized he was fighting a losing battle. When he is allowed to finally go back, if they went back there after he left and rammed his door open I'm going to help him start a suit against the mayor of High River, The Alberta government and the RCMP.

The other day on the news they said locksmiths were opening and re locking doors for search & rescue personnel. I think they rescued over 300 people.

They must be taking guns in plain sight, surely they're not packing gun safes out. I guess they don't want looters to get peoples guns.

I can see a couple sides to this.

1) People are pissed that the cops are essentially breaking into their homes and taking their belongings.

2) The Police are concerned that with the level of stress and anger going on people may be inclined to lean towards violent acts. Therefore are removing fire arms from the people. This is them trying to be pro-active in keeping people safe. But its probably not the best way to approach it.

From what I see on the boob tube, High River is a very volatile situation. Some real hot heads in the crowds, some strong demands by the authorities for obvious reasons, and some passionate people asking questions from their hearts and not there heads. Only time will tell in the long run.

Further to that, if they let people in and someone gets hurt or falls into a sink hole, then who is too blame? Tough to be in the shoes of authorities; damned if you doo and damned if you don't!

There was a news article about the floods in Manitoba where an armed forces personnel was in a Zodiac and stuck his hand in the water and lost his arm to electrocution. We will know what the plan is at 12:30 pm today as they are announcing the re entry plan.

We are talking about ordinary citizens who own hunting rifles. These are not criminal hot heads who are going to grab their guns as soon as they are allowed back in their homes and start shooting the place up because they are mad.

Here is a tip for gun owners: The RCMP said if you can prove ownership you can have your guns back. I'm not sure what proof is needed. Bill of sale? I have guns that were given to me by scared out of their pants uncles when the stupid gun registry was mandatory. I took a pic of all my guns and wrote down the serial numbers and put it in my safe. This action just got me thinking if they took all my guns I would not be able to prove most of them are mine because I never registered most. Even if I can provide the serial numbers I don't know if they would give them back to me. Gun ownership is getting crazy in this world today

Does High River have a high crime rate? Whats the reasoning behind preventing something that hasn't happened yet? This is B.S, smashing down doors to gain entry....insane....nice job to the powers above that made these insane decisions !!!!!

What is wrong with society these days, obviously there is no power to the town, so electricution should not be a issue. I would be furious also to not be aloud back to my house to try & get my guns & things that may not be destroyed. They have been taking people to the moon for how many years & they cannot gather the home owners with properly suited up recruits to help these poor people out, unbelievable!

Some guy in germany thought that was a pretty good idea in the 1930s. That was "proactive" of him?

the powers that be just dont learn from history. Brisbane australia had big floods 2 years ago and so many rediculous mistakes were made that cost not only $$$ but lives. if us in the private sector made mistakes of this magnitude we'd be unemployed and facing charges.
so my point is why dont they study wot happened in other places so they dont sheet the bed in exactly the same way when disaster strikes.

however I can understand taking guns out of some peoples hands and particuly guns that are in plain sight. Where I'm living now there are guns everywhere and very poorly secured. If one nut job gets wound up or stressed out this place sure could get ugly. Its just a good thing country folk dont think like american city slickers

I'll tell you how facked up they are in High River. Many many folks left in such a hurry they left their cats behind thinking they would be able to came back in a few days and feed or get them. Nope. The authorities have not let anyone in to feed their pets. They SAY that when they did their door to door search they fed and watered the pets. I guess we will see what kind of mess people will go home to. I still can not figure out what harm could come from letting people in to check on their homes. I don't mean let them in to stay but to check on their homes. ESPECIALLY the ones who were never flooded out. There are pictures on the High River FB site showing a home with a busted door and left wide open. I wonder how many pets would stay in the house.

I guess if you are eveacuated it would be best to refuse until you can get all the things out that you dont want the gov't to steal from you??

I have always said if they want my guns you they can have them two ways.... hot and empty or out of my cold dead hands... take your pick.
