While some supporting ads are lame (gay guys on the beach, Rosie O'Donnell in the boy scout uniform) this one gets my approval. Go Portra! Whatever that is.

Does a vessel like that come with rigging guidelines? Or is it trade knowledge on max angles and when you need to use a spreader bar?

The vessel engineered design will dictate how the lift must be done.
The vessel design drawing will state this.

A failed lift with no directive on how to lift is a ticket to jail if some one dies.
There are standard rigging procedure for use of the varied type of rigging as well as a single components load maximum and recommended angle of use.

Compliance to both of those aspects is what makes a lift successful and what keeps you out of jail in case of a failure.
If you are not very fluent in both hire a reputable professional.
Those that have been involved in a failed lift with substandard practices know how merciless Alberta Labor and OHS officers will be.

Bob's Weekend Hoisting may not be the best idea.

Whenever we cross that bridge my wife is always saying drive in the middle - so she can’t see over the edge

Yes between Field and Golden, the biggest reason for the fear is we drove the route a few times while it was under construction so she knows how high up it is.
