It seems like you have already talked them down to 1200 or what. If it starts easy then I would take it, don't expect to do long bumpy trails with it, because she will feel it the next day. If the owner seems to be a nice guy ask him if you can do compression test and that will tell you if you will buy it or not....The 583's are a very simple machine to keep running...Loved them...Good luck...

the good part is it is not a 88 lol first year of the mach 1 was 89. they had a proto type 583 that was a real screamer, but if I remember right I think BRP recalled all of them and put in a detuned version but not 100% sure on that one. I just remember something about that from way back. but the 583 in it now will be a way better runner for dependabilty. also this sled in its day was known for the "heaviest sled" built. they were the skud missle....fast but dont get into the powder. $1200 is a good price.

overkill you are correct, they did have a big recall on them and changed all the engines out. But I cannot remember the reason they used, they for sure didn't say that they had a rocket on there hands. LOL

well went to look......got stuck on his road....he lives somewhere between butt**ck and no where, and for some reason they put a 80 degree hill right there in the middle and coated it with ice, and threw on a little snow just for kicks, apparently when you hit that hill you've gone too far.....

anywho, he brought the sled to where i was, helped walk my trailer down, do i could back my truck out........road was just wide enough that my tires rubbed snow banks on both sides.......got out, gf got to take the sled down the hill.....thing started one very easy pull, idled like a dream, he rode it back to his place and...............it wouldnt start....put in new gas.....no dice, checked spark...it was good, put some gas in the cyliders....nothing....checked compression.......90 one side 60 the other....is it possible in that short ride he could have toasted the motor???....like i said before we got back to hisw front yard, and it was shut off it ran like a top....any ideas?

He probably never let it warm up before he came to save you. More than likely the 60 side piston ring is gone. I would say price out a top end re-build for it and knock that off the price and you have a hell of a deal on your hands. Those engines need to be warmed up nicely before you head out. They are not a pull and go kind of sled just like most all of the new ones.
