We're renting out our quad for a day and thinking we should get insurance for that day... just in case... but has anyone ever done that before? And where would you get this insurance? Thanks :)

Get a deposit for the replacement value. I dont think any insurance company would cover a day.
Unless you can afford to run that machine over with your truck and then run it over again and be ok with the loss... dont rent it out

What I’ve done before is make out a bill of sale for the quad. They put insurance on for the weekend. Anything happens they just bought a quad. Comes back in good shape tear up bill of sale. Costs about $20 for full coverage for a weekend. Used to any ways.

I have done this numerous times, all i do is call my insurance gal, tell here that i am demoing a unit, i give her the serial number and thats it. She has never charged me for that. Call her and advise that i did not buy, saves a-lot of paper work.

The way I read this is the owner wants to put on insurance for someone renting it....that seems backwords....
IMO, if you are renting something out, the renter needs to go to his insurance company and tell them he needs coverage while he is in possession of the unit. Then don't let him take it until you get proof of coverage.

If your in BC, you have to have it registered, plated and liability through ICBC regardless, as for insurance for a day? Never heard of it out here, 3 months minimum last time I checked, but that could have changed?

If your in Alberta, I dont have a clue.

It would be the renter that would have to go out and grab insurance for the day... I would not rent my personal machine to anyone to much liability involved. Something goes wrong and they can turn around and sue you and unless you have all your ducks in a row your screwed

Don't do it, if they damage it you won't get it back the same no matter what. Borrowed my new quad wit 300km to a buddy, came back with 2k in plastic damage and a twisted frame. Guess who has to live with the damaged quad. Not the guy who borrowed it that's for sure.

....and if he won't pony up the funds to repair (or outright buy it if its un-repairable)....not much of a buddy

Cant get water from a stone. Fugger said was gonna use it to pack gear into hunting camp. minimal usage, After three weeks of me asking where my machine was he kinda asked how much to buy? I said it was 14k he **** his pants and brought my wreck back. Took two years to get 1200.00 out of him and that was all i could get. I wont borrow anything from anyone and def wont borrow anything out anymore. Not even a shovel. I like my stuff nice and nobody respects anything anymore.

Obviously there's a reason the guy is asking to borrow his quad...... Can't afford his own.... It's easier to wreck yours, it's cheaper that way.
Everything is all fine and dandy till something goes sideways. Thats when you get bent over and get it without lube.

The big thing is that lots of things can happen to a quad that are not covered by insurance, what if it comes back with a flat tire, blown motor, blown diff, broken tie rod, blown bearing, broken axle, burnt belt, won't start anymore or any of a million things that can go wrong that insurance doesn't cover...who's fault is that? who pays for that?

wow, lots to think about. The reason they need the quad is they have friends visiting from Australia so just want to take them out site seeing for the day. ICBC would only cover for a year, nothing shorter but it was only $56 so the friends are coving that cost. Hopefully everything goes ok, and our friends would be good for the money if something does go wrong. Thanks for all your thoughts! :)
