I am a small business owner. Small business is no longer supported by most governments. Small businesses closing all the time as they just can't compete. Policies are made to prop up the big guys and that kills the small guys. Subsidies for the big, nothing for the small. Corporate rates can be set based on a companies financials. Much like a progressive tax. Give the small guy a chance to get ahead and be successful. As they grow and pay a higher tax rate the debt to society is paid back and the government coffers actually make more money....but logic in government never trumps the next election, lobbyists or financial supporters.

Wow! You sure have it out for the small business owner, don't cha?

How about starting with the phucking retards that "manage" the provicial money take a pay cut from they're ridiculous salaries? Or how about we get some money back from Allison Redford? Bi!ch.

I too am a small business owner and you are correct about having no support and the big boys get all the assistance they want. As an example, although this is in the US, all US west coast ports are on rotating strikes by the long shore men union. It has been going on for months causing major disruptions on both import containers and export containers. To avoid the wrath of Walmart/Apple etc, the Union is taking care of their containers but us small guys are getting hit hard. Just another advantage of the big companies.

Alberta has one of the highest rates of corporate tax defualt. Alberta does not spend the time or resources to collect the past due amounts (with interest). It is a right off on the books which is basically a corporate subsidy.
Like hell they don't. Maybe the big companies have enough lawyers and accountants to get out of it, but they do pursue it.

I was disputing a tax issue as their numbers weren't adding up to my accountants and while we were trying to sort it out they decided to freeze my corporate bank account until the funds were paid as they figured I owed still. This technically isn't legal but they get away with it because they are the government. I just paid it to free up my account used for operating capital and in the end my accountant eventually got it sorted and they now owe me. It was a clerical error on their part in the first place that cost me money as I had to pay my accountant for her services. I will never get that back.

If they want to generate more revenue via taxes, start taxing out of province workers earning revenue in Alberta accordingly.
And don't even get me started on the tax breaks TFW's get.

The easiest thing we can do is legalize and tax Marijuana. Look at Colorado, they cannot figure out what to do with the money. Regressive tax!

100% agree with this statement. Tax the people that come to work here and leave, most of them hate Alberta but still come here to work and make the money that provides them a life. TFW's, what a joke!

In the big picture as a small buisines owner my self there are benefits in terms of write offs that people with deductions at the source do not get. If one is so inclined "cash deals" pretty short sighted on this one though, I'd rather have better revenues which in turn adds value to your company (think resale) not to mention increased line of credit (sometimes the loot goes out quicker than comes in).
I do get it though, one of the old guys I run into at the Legion told me about his son. He is an auditor for CRA, only does big corporations. Hienz was telling me how his son would work fo months at a time finding big dough (millions) owed by these corporations. The long and short is because the corporations can afford better "tax lawyers" than CRA more often than not they'd win..
This is where CRA unfortunately has guys like us by the short and curlies, good tax lawyers often will cost more than the disputed amount...
The point being if the tax rates were less but fines/penalties for evasion for lack of a better term were greater the honest money collected should more than cover this upcoming little blip. It is cyclic and it will get better again, the good people will always be employed it's more the "transient" individuals that typically are affected by these down turns...

curious what tax breaks you think TFW's get. I've been through the hiring process and not sure what breaks they get. Cost me a lot of money to bring them over, best thing I ever did though for our business. Costs me more, but I have someone happy to work and that will actually do a decent job

They get breaks on taxes. Housing subsidies, education for free if they want it, we pay for them to take driver training and get class 1. And I think there are a few more.

I wonder how much $$$ there would be had taxing out of province workers? I assume they don't pay Ab. income tax and their $$ sure as hell doesn't get put back into the local Ab. economy.

It would certainly help out the economy for Alta. Out of province (most workers) come here work take the money back to where they live and Alta doesn't see a cent. Fair or what.

I agree with bumping corporate tax... No reason the big companies should be coddled by government.. I miss old Klein.. Some folks didn't like the way he ran things. but he did what he had to do to help balance the books, and I for one think some of that thinking is what our government needs.... Just my 2c take it or leave it
Of course we are still paying for Ralph's "doing what he had to do". Crumbling schools, hospitals, roads etc. A balanced budget is useless if your roof has holes in it and you aren't feeding the kids. Half the guys that are saying the government should never go into deficit are buying toys with loans FFS.

There was a report few months back that showed the corporate tax dollars defaulted by large corporations in this province. IT was staggering. Report also stated there were no resources to chase after the cheats. Much easier for CRA to chase down the little guys....and they do it a lot!!! I believe there was one of the investigative journalism programs here in Canada that called CRA out on this practice.

How the hell can the other provinces in canada balance a budget better than
alberta? The revenue from natural resource royalties has to be 10 times what the other provinces bring in with provincial sales taxes. Its not like manitoba, pei, nova scotia and the other atlantic provinces are hammering oil and gas out of the ground and collecting 30% royalties off every barrel sold not to mention the corporate taxation collected from oil companies profit after they've already gouged once.

The over spending and waste in this province is ridiculous, we have 4 million full time residents in alberta you cant tell me they arent already collecting enough out of our pockets. Manitoba only has like 1.5 million residents and no real natural resources to tax from and they arent as screwed as us?

Hey here's an idea, lets blow money like a meth addict on a bender then tax our residents than more. Once we have em good and pissed off lets dig our hands in their pockets further and tax the money they have left again with a sales tax on goods they buy with after tax dollars...

Wonder why oil companies are shutting down exploration in north america? the government is taxing the oil till the point its not profitable to produce and than jobs are lost like crazy. If they were held criminally responsible for their actions they might reconsider building **** like an $850k zambonni garage at the legislative grounds in edmonton.

I completely agree with you, but I will say that Alberta DOES have some nice roads. When you hit the AB/SK border, you know it. Feels like your vehicle falls apart. When you hit the SK/MN border, it happens again. That's about all the good I have to say tho.

Edit.... sorry Mikey...... *though*

Wonder if he knows where I could find a 76 Warlock with the 440 in it. Been looking for ten years and actively for 5. But then again I don't have government salary.
