Unless you threaten and promise and fear monger people about a PST up until election time and then miraculously pull it off the table.... Watch & wait.....no PST.
Rest assured though we will pay dearly for redfords & stelmachs years of financial blundering......

Welcome to the real world, hope your not living beyond your means too much cause the tax man want's part of your over paid wages.

Maybe this will help our enviroment when it comes to our snow condition's, less big money, less high paying jobs, less coal burners with sleds equal's less pollutants in the environment. Just like teaching old dog's new trick's. haha

Hey no problem , thanks anytime !! We enjoy paying more than our share !! It's nice to pay for the hippies out in your neck of the woods too.... It leaves them much better equipped to keep rallying to shut us down out here.....
We are only too happy to provide jobs (real jobs) to the people in your province when they can not find any out there....no need to thank us , it's what we do.....

You are a shining example of what is wrong with our country today.....!!

We may as well have a Provincial Tax.... it's not like the lack of a PST keeps the cost of living down. We are the only province without a PST yet we have the highest cost of living in Canada.

I was going to sit back and watch but once I get called a pot smoking tree hugger I get kinda pissed. In the short term it doesn't affect BC much. We have a lot more of a gas economy than oil and the weaker dollar only helps the forestry and mining exports. The lower oil translates into lower fuel and operating costs for all industries. Cheaper fuel and a low dollar will increase tourism. Until this starts to stretch out long term there isn't much effect except on those that commute to work in the patch and maybe some of the sled towns will slow down but I have a feeling that won't be noticed this winter.

I'm assuming all your 2 strokes are for sale? You don't wanna be a hypocrite putting pollutants into the environment.

In my head
Alberta has the lowest corporate tax rate in the country. A 1/2% increase still keeps it on the lower side but could bring in billions.

Alberta has one of the highest rates of corporate tax defualt. Alberta does not spend the time or resources to collect the past due amounts (with interest). It is a right off on the books which is basically a corporate subsidy.

High rate of corporate subsidies in general. Some 11 Billion couple years back. Ironically the exact amount estimated to fix healthcare.

Resource royalties are a farce.

Flat tax (enough said).

It's about poor management............and we all know who the mangers are.

I would be OK with a luxury tax like some of the US states imposed, but first I want new managers. A PST means nothing if it's being squandered away in the same way it has been for oh....around 40 years.

just another example how politicians get a hold of the working man's money and squander it so fast and when things don't go to plan / according to budget they are asking us to tighten our belts/slap a tax. What really pi$$es me off how fast things change in less than a few months from feast to famine according to our fearless leaders. If AB doesn't have its financial house in order (with the revenues coming in) how can other other provinces have any chance. Very reckless!

I for one was a huge supporter of the HST when it was in BC. So many people get worked up about the T word, but in all honesty if the money went towards things like its suppose to then it is justified, health, schools, roads assistant programs etc.

This is my guess, Prentice is throwing out the term PST, he is going to do so just before the election to get the population of Alberta all worked up. Then a month or so before said election he will say that there is no way he will introduce PST, he will throw some other BS our way, he will get voted back in and when he does he will remove the flat income tax, this is much much worse than a PST, he will totally line his pockets with your hard earned money.

PST is a choice tax, as in you choose to buy or not.
Income Tax you don’t get a choice and this is what they want.

Is there an income problem or a spending problem??

The average family spends 33.6 of its income on the necessities of life while 41.5 per cent of its income goes to taxes.

Pretty tough to make a case that there is an income problem in Alberta. With the government or the residents.

I agree with bumping corporate tax... No reason the big companies should be coddled by government.. I miss old Klein.. Some folks didn't like the way he ran things. but he did what he had to do to help balance the books, and I for one think some of that thinking is what our government needs.... Just my 2c take it or leave it

Not everyone in alberta makes "oil money"..... we have restaurants, wal-marts, service providers, grocery stores etc.... many people are employed in minimum to mediocre paying jobs/careers

There are higher wages here yes, but also a higher cost of living.

I was more along the lines of we have a spending problem, the government gets more than enough. I like good roads, hospitals etc. but there is a ton of waste.
