Looking at getting rid of my wife's 2005 Polaris 700 and up dating her's to 550 xp with power steering. I was told that the 550 has more power than the 700 is that true. She wants the same power as my 800 sportsman but i think the 850 might be a bit much. Just looking at some insight if anyone is riding one of these new units.
Thanks

The 850 does have good power, but it is easy to handle and comes on very smooth, if she wants the power of the 800 i would go with the 850. Yes it will have more power than the 800, but the 550 will have much less (although it is very peppy).
I have found these XP's to be very good, no problems at all with mine, i did have probems with all the other new units that i bought new (Kawi 750,Honda 680,Can-Am 800).
I do not know the power difference of the 550 and the 700. But i do know the Can-Am 800 does have more power than the 850 XP Polaris (not by much but i do feel a little difference).

My Can-am is quicker in a drag race than my 850 XP. With that said the 850 xp with powersteering is for my wife and it is her favorite.
For the extra it costs I would go with the 850 then you have a bike that you would enjoy also.

I drove both the 550 and the 850.

The 850 is a smoother running engine and power band.
The power steering is great a must have.

I only have 300 km on mine and has been all winter driving.

I would suggest the 850

Nice thing about the XP series is the ability to travel up to 39 mph/70 kmph in low gear.

The 550 clutch engagement is a lot rougher than the 850.

Both are BIG machines when sitting on them.

Like 'em both.
