Well, believe it or not, Ive had good success using a soldering gun, and adding bits of excess plastic I carved from other spots of the piece into the plastic for filler, while holding a piece of metal behind the fix. If its in a place that flexes, I melt a piece of metal screening material (polaris gen 2 vent) into the plastic. I put together an entire smashed hood a few years ago. Whattaya thinka that? Crazy.

a plastic welder is basicly the same

problem is with a soltoring gun that u cant control the heat

some plastics with the wrong heat just burn instead of getting liquid so u an fill the spot

I controlled the heat with my trigger finger, and did a weave similar to welding. I could feel the paint on the outside with the gun, and after some practice did not burn through. When you live way the hell up in in Stewart, sometimes you have to get creative. (ford solenoid and home made bumper on my Yamaha)

Anyone know a good, decently priced plastic welder around cowtown? Broke my side panel :(

Had a good rip in the plastic just under the primary, I used a dremil and smoothed the edges then took a soidering iron with a big tip and melted it back together worked really well. If you doo it on the inside of the panel you won't even be able to tell. If you want someone to do it I saw a sign on # 1 just east of Strathmore advertising plastic welding. Good luck.:d

He's gonna fix it up for me, and patch some holes on the other one for $100. Can't go wrong. Dropped off the panels today Pick up Monday

So $200 for the both panels that I'd need then...$100 to fix up both sounds better to me. Especially after JUST putting on a vent kit

just sayin...

It's where it hooks onto the metal hook where the plastic holds go over...clear as mud?! I can't zip tie it

I would but I JUST put on my vent kit. Would prefer to fix if the price is right.
Rawdy,

What did you do in the end with your vents? I was saying some frog skin and a kit through Mountain Magic...curious how it turned out...gotta a pic?

Heya J,

I ended up going with a vent kit from Menz Toys. Easy to install and he gave me good tips. Do not cut out the area completely. Instead drill holes that are in line with where the vent will be over.

In the pics you can see that I drilled holes in line with the mesh. Most of the spots I fit 3 holes down. I haven't put the vent kit on my hood yet but will do that this week. Also thinking of getting the ones for the front and back of the side panels to allow air flow.

Contact Wayne at Menz Toys. Good product.

When I originally put it on the side panel I did think that it was too big too. It's all about placing your rivets one at a time and making sure you line it up in a good spot. Once I did that it seemed to suck it into the perfect spot!
