Hey all, I have an 05 chev 1/2 ton V-8 and am wondering what benefits may be gained in power and fuel economy by installing a chip, and where and how much this would cost to do??

Gonna give some CPR to this old thread, anyone have a chip on a 2009 or newer F-150? I just want to increase mileage and need really no HP gain.

Edge is coming out with there color screen programers for the '09/10 F-150 at the end of the month I believe. I have a CS for my 06 and seem to be getting close to 4 MPG better. And that's just stock, I have a CAI I am going to add yet and am waiting for custom tunes from Power Hungry Performance yet too. So that should bump me a little more yet also.

I had an '04 Chev 6.0L with a Hypertech programmer, Airaid cold air intake, and a Banks Monster exhaust - the power, torque, and to a lesser degree the fuel economy were drastically improved. The single biggest improvement was the Banks exhaust, I had a Gibson on for the first few years but the resonance in the cab was mind numbing. I tried getting Gibson to warranty it but they will not warranty anything sold outside of the US. Once the Banks Monster kit became available for my truck, I tossed the Gibson system in the dump installed the Banks and the performance difference was significant (and NO skull splitting resonance). The Hypertech has various performance levels, some of which require the use of premium gasoline.

I found chips barely work on gas trucks and that is the honest truth i ran one on a 2004 chevy silverado 6.0l SS with a superchip programmer took the top speed limiter out but really only gained 1-2 mpg if I was just cruizing at 110 down the highway other than that it ate my fuel up. Also Just had a bullydog (what a joke they are) in my 2009 nissan titan once again very little power difference the exhaust and intake did more than the chip did for it mileage was a tiny bit better same factor cruize it was good set it around 115-120 and ate the gas. Also stay clear from Bullydog there customer service is very poor I pulled my titan chip to give to a friend and it would not install into his 2009 same as mine after about 8 upgrades it still doesn't work and nothing getting done about it. In my opinion do the full header back exhaust with a nice afe or volant air intake with a throttle body and it will help you out way more. If u do wanna chip it go with the predator by diablosport THEY ACTUALLY WORK IN GAS TRUCKS !!!!!

The new edge chips work very very well in the F150's when i ran my performance store in cranbrook I put a edge evolution in a 2006 f150 and it worked pretty good for a chip in a gas truck

i run on my 2004 f150 5.4 supercrew Magnaflow full 3" single exhaust cat back, Air raid full intake system, Throttle body spacer, and the Edge Evo chip i usually run on #2 but have several ocasions ran on #3 i do have to admit it doesnt help like a diesle but i have gained alot over stock and trust me its easier on the tranny...i have replaced one already. i also have a hypertech for it but never tried it....maybe i should hmmmm or stack them :)

so if anyone looking for a Hypertech for a 2004-newer f150 chip i gots one!

Interesting....you go look in to any of the Titan forums and guys are loving the Bully Dog Power Pup or GT, and the Cortex system. Maybe the programs have improved since you tried it. They are getting improved dyno numbers and improved track times. Air fuel ratinos are spot on. As for it not working in your buddies truck, programs are non transferable unless initial truck is set back to stock (if you didn't already know that). You can however change the timing curve on as many trucks as you want.

I recently installed the bully Dog PP in my truck and it was a noticeable difference. Only thing I will say is for gas trucks, do not get your hopes up too high. There is a performance gain, but it isn't huge like on diesel trucks. Having the wide open throttle restriction removed is the most fun ever! As for gas mileage, if I could keep my foot off the throttle I might get better. :d

Best bet with the programmer is to also have higher airflow whether with a modified factory box and high flow filter, or CAI. Also a low restriction muffler like Magnaflow. That will get you the most out of a setup.

I will be towing with my setup soon and look forwrd to seeing what it changes.

oh beleieve me I know what there is to know about the titans I'm a nissan dealer in cranbrook and yes truck was turned back to stock and still never worked the software in the programmer is currently only 2 months old and still will not work and cant get a straight answer why it will work other than that i'm out around $500 for a chip I used for 2 months. I think people are liking the programmer cause they have nothing to compare wqith the adjusted timing does really nothing same with the wide open throttle option if your gonna chip it go diablsport or superchips they actually work. the only thing my bully dog did was a bad low end lag a decent mid range power and a real weak top end speed when the throttle was pressed I found with the air intake and full exhaust it did better power and fuel than the chip

the problem with most trucks these days be it gas or diesel is the major restrictions that they must put on from the factory on the exhaust side of things! If u want the most power and best mileage the best way is exhaust (full exhaust not cat back) and a nice free flowing air intake if u really wanna get into it go with some JBA or stillen headers and it will do wonders on your mileage and power throw a chip in to get that tiny bit of extra fuel for a little extra power

I have had a Superchip tunner on my 5.4L gas F250 for years and it's a dog. It works better on stock setting and the only thing I use the tunner for is to adjust the tire size to get the speedo working correctly. Any modifications you make to the truck ( CAI, exhaust etc. ) will de-tune the chip. The chip typically does not take into account the mods unless your tunner knows the custom program to account for the particular mods. Most people get worse performacne using a CAI and tunner (unless you get a custom tune). Since Superchip must be CARB (emissions compliant) - they are reluctant to give you a tune that works with CAI. Also Superchips technical support sucks.

and you can get ford to program the proper tire size into your trucks ecu....... Just sayin'.
Woulda been a lot cheaper.
