Oil in the coolant of a 2004 6.0l Ford diesel

So, the warden takes the truck to work one day. I go out to the garage to get a toboggan and there is a lake of oil on the garage floor. Of course she didn't notice this when backing out, so she drove 30 minutes with it leaking bad enough to leave a trail. I get it towed and up on the hoist, and it looks like oil got into the coolant and blew out the coolant overflow. This is weird, as the oil in the garage did not have coolant in it.

So 6.0l, I automatically think head gasket, but at 188k? Now someone suggested the oil cooler may be to blame. I don't get that. I'm scared it's a cracked block or something, but won't know until the dealership get's her up on the hoist in the new year. Any thoughts?

What year is the truck.
When I used to work at ford that was a problem from the high pressure oil that runs the injectors getting into the coolant.

Sorry I see the year now...too much:beer:

We mostly did head gaskets on that year.

I had an '04 and had to do head gaskets at 166k ...... Most likely head gaskets. Is there any coolant in the engine oil? It could also be timing cover gaskets or cracked housing? Could be a lot of possiblities, but until it is diagnosed, you better start saving your denaro's......... It will be expensive, any way you look at it.

Sounds familar sounds like a leaking injector leaking oil into the coolant, a guy I know had this happen to him, on a 04 as well I hope it something simple like a injector on the front of the engine, injectors at the back of the engine, I believe you nee to lift the cab to replace those, trade her in on a dodge, I hate that navistar engine in the ford.

on a ford 6.0l it is an oil cooler leaking head gaskets will not put oil in coolant on these trucks

there is a kit to eliminate the oilcooler in the block design and use a air to oil cooler instead pm me if you need more info i have 5 yeas on 6.0's at dealership

had something very similar happen to mine recently 04 f350 136 k, it was originally diagnosed as a blown head gasket but after getting some prices from different places i took it to a guy in bon accord and he said there was no head gasket leak and that the egr cooler was leaking so he removed it put in a delete kit and everything seems to be working ok now.saved me $5000 off what ford dealers had quoted me and $3000 off what he had quoted me.
my advice, if there's no warranty stay away from the dealerships.

4 years ago, I was camping in Cadomin, and as we were leaving, the wife at the time. Noticed, oil on the ground where we were parked. Shut the truck off took a look and couldn't see anything. Drove back to St. Albert, with the trailer, and nothing when I got home. After put the trailer away, and truck out front. Noticed LOT'S of oil fast. drove it straight to City Ford, and Left a good trail all the way there. Got to the service bay, and it was coming out faster.
Long story short, it blew out the high pressure oil pump O-ring. Sorry but no coolant mixed with oil. Or Ford didn't tell me

In for a penny, in for a pound. The truck is no good to me dead, so I'm bucking up and hoping for the good-guy discount. Looks like the oil cooler is getting done and an egr eliminator kit is going in. Bad timing, but what can you do.....

It looks like I'm keeping this one a little longer to get my money out. Maybe it will get struck by lightening and I'll get the insurance pay-out. That would be a better kind of luck, as long as my sled isn't on the deck at the time.

That new Ford engine is supposed to be impressive. They kept a truck idling in the conference centre for the entire dealer expo. It was quiet enough to talk over and the emissions were minimal (apparently). I just hate buying first year production models.

AND ONLY 2.7 HOURS TO CHANGE THE FAN BELT......... JUST SAYIN':d

44k on my 2004... had it in 3 times with complaints of clutch fan running and coolant disapearing... could not find any problems each time with EGR or head gaskets... now told them I do not want the truck back until the problem is found and they happend to find that it is the Oil Cooloer clogged.

fyi. get a quote first , who is doing it , what are they doing to clean oil let me know i will tell ya if they are doing it right there is some chemicals that work quite quickly and some shorts cuts on flushing i have excellent sucess with lots of r&d in it

oil cooler line is were i look Ford bought a friend my motor for same problem
I have 6.0 litre ford no problem yet thank god
