Well I have done it. Brought home a new to me 18 50th anniv 162 SW. Still have a 2011 M8 162 for my spare sled, and a 16 Axys 163 still on warranty in the shop for yet another full engine rebuild. Excited to try something completely different. Been mountain riding since the late 90's and after watching the Yamaha promo video that I believe RS (Climbax ??) was in, thought that this SW is what I need. No doubt will take some getting used to, especially the steering not being flat like the Polaris. I do feel like I want a taller bar riser in it as I am 6' 2", can a 7.5 or 8" fit without changing any cables? The sled already has full skidplate, CR muffler, Proclimb front and rear bumpers, tether, so don't think it needs anything else quite yet. Going to run the VIN on Monday with a dealer to see if it has any updates from Yamaha (only has 96km on it). Is the clutching dialed in fairly well in stock trim? Hope to get it out to Revy next weekend! Thanks for any insight or tips.

Congrats on the new SW. If you're not a fan of the laydown post, you have options: I installed the vertical post from a 06 Viper, using Canada Sled Parts bushings to reduce the slop - there's a lot of guys that will swap the viper post for your laydown setup - I personally hate the laydown setup. For me, it has a much better feel then the Doo style steering. I don't know if an 8" riser will fit, 7.5" will be a stretch, may have to do some rerouting of cables / hoses.

Will give the riser an honest try before looking into a viper post setup. Does anybody have the same proclimb rear bumper with that silly gas rack type thing on it? Is there a tank and straps specifically for it? I have been running the Mountain Addiction tank on all my stuff but since the SW has this already looking for a good tank and strap setup if possible.

A picture would help on the highlighted above ^^^^.
I like the mountain addiction set up, its clean but i won't use it as too many gas can's have been lost with their set up imo.

That looks like a rack for the 20L and 15L conventional can's.
I carry the 15L can as i carry spare fuel for two sleds. The 15L is basically a squatty version of the 20L.
If your carrying for one sled it might be the wrong rack for you unless you like to carry a lot of fuel.

I have always carried lots of fuel with the 2 smokes, pretty typical to put on 200km in some areas we get into south of Golden, spring time anyway. Was hoping to not have to go back to tarp straps or ratchet straps holding jerry cans down. Its a minor detail anyway, I may be able to fab something up to bolt onto the tunnel/bumper bracket tabs that fit the Doo Linq stuff. Thanks again>

Im 6'2" and and went with a CFR 5" riser and their Boondocker 2.0 bars. Been working really well for me.

Congratulations on joining the unicorn group lol... I suggest you put a snow flap on as for Clutching with stock Tune, Cr Pipe & CAI just leave clutching stock and try it...

And strong, had a small run in with a tree last season and the steering post was the weak link.
What do you recommend for a snowflap? I have ripped mine from the rivits and was just going to reinstall it but if there is a better option im all ears.

I hear ya on the flap, the PC is a chucker. Are the yamaha flaps better than the Cat ones. My old M was a flap eating machine! LOL.
May do the CFR bars, have them on my M as well, been very happy with them. The forecast does look promising I cant wait!
Another thing was wondering about was if these things have rollover valves factory installed? Hope so

yup took him out 2 days....we don’t put on big miles in Fernie since the riding is pretty close. He hadn’t rode for 5 years prior, so took a bit to get use to again. He never did make it out after that weekend. Definitely like new.

Talking with a guy today and he asked how many belts I’m packing with me ? I said 1 spare. He’s saying that the SW is a belt eater. Not sure, usually the Yamaha’s from what I’ve seen the last 20yrs have been pretty good. I guess keep an eye on the rollers in secondary, but other than that?
